The Boys 5x01 Reaction

unrelated but i saw Sentimental Value for the first time last night and i remember lola saying it's on her watchlist and she's looking forward to it because skarsgard and i hope they react to it in the future! they said they'll try one movie per month T_T i'd also kill for a One Battle reaction :/
I like that in this episode we got a lot of criticism for current American culture with deep fakes, fake news, tiktok, memes, toxic male podcasts and influencers. It's kinda sad, that the parody in the show doesn't hit that hard anymore, because we already have stuff like that in real life.
That A-Train scene was the Wal-Mart version of that Quicksilver X-Men scene.
I still enjoyed it. What I don't understand is how it is even possible for him to accidentally run into a person if he is that fast. His speed and reaction time varies a lot from scene to scene.
these comments need to chill, no show will ever be perfect, its funny, crazy and a great story with even better acting. I feel like the other shows I personally don't watch never get the boys or invincible fans hating on it in the comments.
Nobody saying it needs to be perfect, people are just sharing their subjective opinions. Nothing wrong with disliking something as long as there is a valid reason for it.
This season is.......... something that's for sure, but I can't wait to get you ladies thoughts on it and see if your viewpoints differ from mine or not.
Going from Mad Men to The Boys is quite the whiplash in writing quality lol
The first 3 seasons were great! I don't know what happened in the writing room after that.
I think this season was much better than season 4, if you take episodes individually at face value. But cohesively doesn't work as well and I get when people are upset that it doesn't feel like a 'final' season.
at this point im only watching the boys to know how it ends
Delighted to see everyone hating on this show because i’ve been a hater since season 3 tbh (which is when i quit the show). Honestly hate the main “boys” (butcher and hughie) and only enjoyed homelander as a character. Always knew it was a show destined to crash and burn. It had cracks from the beginning for those with eyes to see it.
I think there are a big differences in writing quality between Season 1-2, 3 and Season 4-5. There was alot of good stuff in the show with great story arcs. Butcher Season 2 was so good...
Because my comment below Patrick's is kinda long: A-Train was the best character! That episode did him justice!
I don’t know what the comments are talking about, I think this season is good. Let the girls at least WATCH the season before trashing it and hindering their expectations.
I don’t disagree with the criticism of this season but idk why people are talking about their problems with the whole season on this episode when the girls haven’t seen the rest. There are more than enough platforms to vent their frustration. Everyone is doing too much
This should be done twice a week to finish as quickly as possible.
3 times please. We have 2 free slots after A Knight of The Seven Kingdoms.
Anyone else only watch this season for Homelander?
And Firecracker and Deep tbh. Couldn't care less about The Boys themselves at this point, which is a shame.
Is JJK0 not today or because it's a movie that goes on a different day?
JJK0 is Wednesday. They announced it in the last upload.
Oh boyyyy i cant wait for straight ASS. This is heading towards being worst than the stranger things finale
The list of great shows with really bad endings gets longer and longer... How I Met Your Mother, Dexter, Two and a half Men, House of Cards, Game of Thrones, The 100, Squid Game, Stranger Things, ...
This upload reminded me that I just stopped watching season 5 randomly which kind of says it all
I want to know how it ends. It’s like Game of Thrones, but The Boys never reached its highs.
this show sucks
This season is rough onem Probably the roughest one. This was the best episode of the season by far. Buckle up
Last episode was pretty good I think. And the 'supernatural reunion' was pretty funny. Jensen also has amazing lines throughout the entire season. All in all I think this season is actually really funny, and I also like many of the plots, but they are a mess. There is so much going on and it barely feels connected and Sage is going on my nerves even more than last season. She is the most intelligent person in the world, but we never see her intelligence in action. Everything she achieved was by chance, but they act as if her plan couldn't have worked out any other way, even though it was mostly a toin coss.
Should I watch Gen V S2 before watching The Boys S5?
Theoretically yeah, but in the end it's not worth your time, because even so Gen V Season 2 was great, The Boys Season 5 is not using any of it for good, the opposite to be honest. Watch Season 5, watch the end of the show, then forget everything about it and then pretend that the show ended with Season 3.
This is a very good start imo. The kind of quality you would expect in a final season. Oh boy I sure do hope the rest of the season tries to replicate this quality!
Such a letdown, I remember how much I loved this series in the middle of Season 3 💔
I still haven’t watched season 5 and can’t even remember if I finished season 4, they really lost me which is a shame I really liked the first few seasons.
I agree so much! What made the first seasons work so well was that everything felt connected and the characters made sense. Season 1 was built around exposing what Vought really is. I love the concept of Supes who are created with Compound V and then sold to the public as celebrities and symbols of American power. The whole show was a fight against celebrity culture, corporate control, media manipulation, political corruption and a company powerful enough to cover up every crime as long as the money keeps flowing. I also loved the plot about Homelander creating supervillains by spreading Compound V to terrorist groups, basically creating the need for the existence of The Seven. Season 2 was awesome too. The Boys became fugitives. Stormfront rebranded old fascist ideology for the internet age like the new far-right. Kimiko’s brother expanded the Compound V terror story, and Frenchie’s past with Mallory and Lamplighter fit really well. MM only wanted to get back to his family, so he did everything to get his fugitive status dropped. Hughie and Annie’s relationship felt really natural. And Butcher finding Becca alive and choosing to protect Ryan was a really good character arc for him. I was blown away by how multi-layered his character was. Season 3 started to get messier, but was still strong. Hughie working for Neuman made sense because he wanted to fight Supes without violence, and his discovery that Neuman was secretly a Supe working with Vought pushed him back toward Butcher. Butcher tries to find a way to kill Homelander and ends up following the tracks of Soldier Boy's disappearance. MM gets pulled in again because of that, to finally resolve his family trauma with Soldier Boy. And because Homelander starts acting out and doing whatever he wants, even controlling Annie however he wants, Hughie starts seeking power to get rid of him. Also, Temp V for military use was the logical next step for corporate Vought, which Butcher and Hughie use. Season 3 was also the first time the team split up over a true disagreement. Butcher and Hughie are willing to work with Soldier Boy if it means killing Homelander. MM wants Soldier Boy stopped because Soldier Boy destroyed his family. Annie refuses to accept "the enemy of my enemy" logic when innocent people are getting hurt. It was exciting. Kimiko losing her powers because of Soldier Boy's blast and thinking her powers made her a monster was also great. My biggest issue with Season 3 was Frenchie's storyline about his past. It was such a big disconnected subplot, just for Kimiko to fight someone so she could realize that her powers are needed to keep her loved ones safe. Still, Season 3 worked overall. Season 4 is where the show really started to feel wrong to me. I will not repeat my rant about Season 4, because I did that below 4x07 on Patreon, but almost every character felt off or out of place. The plot armor became insane. Sage’s intelligence often felt less like actual intelligence and more like coincidences and audience knowledge being presented as a master plan. “Random things happened and somehow that was my plan” intelligent. Everything felt stretched and filled with filler. You could probably adapt all of Season 4 into four episodes and it would still feel stretched. Not every character needs their own huge storyline every season just to end up back where they started. After the very interesting Season 4 finale, I really hoped Season 5 would be better. At least the first two episodes are fun, if you ignore some strange plot decisions. Like why should Homelander keep Hughie, MM and Frenchie alive for one whole year in a "freedom" camp? Why does he not announce their execution earlier? Why deporting Kimiko, a strong Supe, who is also part of the team? If they can't keep her in check, kill her, or throw her in a freezer like Soldier Boy. That plot armor is just insane to me. I hate it so much that the writers never seem willing to truly change the status quo, split the team permanently, or let important characters in the group die. This endless Butcher break-up and reunion cycle. Do not have him act completely crazy, ruin the team’s plan, leave, and then just come back one episode later. Either split him from the team permanently, maybe even make him the villain, or keep him with the team. This break-up, reunion, break-up, reunion dynamic has become so repetitive that I honestly no longer care about the group or their character dynamics. Also after rewatching the show, I really noticed that Homelander seems to have lost half of his IQ points after Season 3. Earlier Homelander was terrifying because he was powerful, unstable, manipulative and smarter than people wanted to admit. Now he often feels like just Trump in a Superman costume. Without Antony Starr, that character would have lost so much appeal that I would have probably dropped the show. To be honest, the only character who stayed consistently great to watch from Season 1 to Season 5 is A-Train, mostly because A-Train’s arc actually feels like progression. And his end was great! The Deep is also enjoyable. He is the butt of the jokes in many scenes. He did not have any character-altering storyline, but his need for power, respect and love from the public is consistent, and all his scenes fit his character.
Damn was hoping for Plurb.
they probably won't start season 1 until any news comes out about s2 :(
How far did you watch? I'm not sure if we can already trash talk about plot that happened later in the season or if we have to wait :D
you have to wait, we’ve only seen episode 1
Ngl I love the consistency but your time might be spent better elsewhere.
I just hope we watch The Boys three times the week after A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is finished, so it’s over faster. The Pitt, Firefly, Fargo, One Piece or Narcos would be awesome next. We will probably wait for Pluribus Season 2 and Fallout Season 3 before continuing/starting both shows unless they say otherwise.
