The “bloodlust” scene is just showing that Genau is very much affected by what happens despite his impassive and detached behavior. When Genau activated his spell right before Frieren attacked, she registered a lot of bloodlust in the attack that she thought it was a demon, it was just his internal emotional state leaking through his magic at that moment. Also Genau is truly Serie’s student, pretending not to care but actually cares very much

It’s been awhile since a Frieren episode abruptly ended

Demons in this world are 100% evil. They murder humans. They eat them but don't have to. They are monsters. They have showed us over and over again that's what they are in this world. I don't understand why people have issues with it

With all the random and often uselessly situational spells that Frieren knows, you'd think that she'd have something to soften the bread or otherwise make it more edible...

Frieren season 2 had the potential to be better than Frieren season 1 if they had just given season 2 more than 20 episodes but instead they gave it 10. That means the best arc in the show won’t be adapted at all and we will have to wait until season 3 to see it. Having said that I obviously still love the season a lot but I would have preferred to wait more years for more episodes and get it all at once :(

Genau was the proctor of the first test where they tried to catch the bird, and some mages died to the larger bird monsters. He scoffed and shrugged off the weaker mages dying because "first-class mages are just that valuable". His introduction in s1 definitely painted him as a cold bastard dismissive of innocent mages dying. He claims he's not emotionally affected by the death and destruction of his hometown and continues to act detached but he lies to the dying man to bring peace of mind, insists on continuing to search the town for survivors, dead bodies, straggler demons; places the bodies together and seals the church, and Frieren says that his spell using the crows had so much bloodlust she thought it was a demon. Truly a student of Serie, the fakest IDGAFers of the show.

So the show does 'dark' as brilliantly as everything else! I think Genau is just dead inside (for some reason) - he was a bit like that in season 1, too, although we didn't see much of him. Interesting that Stark said the demons didn't eat the bodies in his village - so he must have gone back after the village was destroyed.

Humans are never the enemy in this show. So my mind never goes there. Only enemies are demons and time. They were tasked to defeat this powerful enemy. Demon King is dead. This is just a powerful demon.

This episode made me so angry… They adapted the darker moments so well that it got me really excited for the next big arc, only to be reminded that Season 2 is just 10 episodes long and ends right before one of the best arcs in Frieren :(
