Andor 2x11 Reaction

When Cassian knocks on the door of the safe house it is the rhythmic pattern of the warning signal used on Ferrix
Holy crap.
there's a pretty wide variety of stars wars media i'm sure there's others you'd like, and others you wouldn't like, but rogue one followed by a rewatch of a new hope would be the place to start either way i think! andor was designed to lead into rogue one, which was designed to lead into a new hope
Ditto
I like to think of it as a relay race. It takes a whole chain of rebels to destroy the Death Star. Lonnie uses Dedra’s access to find out about it. He tells Luthen who tells Kleya who radios to Wilmon who tells Cassian and Melshi. I won’t spoil Rogue One but obviously the information eventually finds its way to Princess Leia and so on. Without any one of these heroes, the rebels are doomed.
Thanks for reacting to the show guys. Even though they're different I hope to see Rogue One and at least the Original Trilogy if you're interested. Have a nice day.
I feel like they have to watch Rogue One at least! Honestly the ending of Andor would feel so abrupt if you don't know what happens in that movie
I really liked the after episode discussion! Your thoughts on how Palpatine’s presence is felt even though he’s not shown is very intentional and I’m glad you both picked up on it. You could say he’s a… Phantom Menace
It also gives me the impression of a clique within the higher offices of the Empire
I love the minor detail of Krennic calling Partagaz by his first name, Lio. It’s such a minor detail that says so much. You got the sense that they have a history together and know each other well.
I think it’s important knowing up front that Rogue One is a really different beast from Andor in genre, tone, pacing and writing. It’s a bridge between the down-to earth realism of Andor and the silly space fantasy of the original trilogy. Compared to Andor Rogue is a jumbled, dumb action movie with paper-thin characters that was a complete mess upon completion so Tony G. had to be brought in to do extensive reshoots and salvage the whole thing. I believe that if you go in with “calibrated enthusiasm” you’ll enjoy it more.
You're probably one of the few people on the planet who basically watched Andor first out of anything Star wars and you need to know that it's such a unique expirience. Like out of the people who watched any star wars show or a movie, you'd probably be in the 0,005% of them.
It's also nice to see that, yes, Andor really does stand on its own, because while I have always assumed that it would, I wasn't completely sure. This is all the more noteworthy when other Star Wars shows often rely on nostalgia, cameos and easter eggs instead of actually having a good story.
You girls definitely need to watch Rogue one immediately after. Not because it's so brilliant (although i personally liked it a lot) but because it's the closest, in terms of mood and message, to Andor and it is a conclusion of sorts to the series. I mean even though you don't remember Episode IV, you say you are aware that the Rebels win and that Luke destroys the death star. So i would say that there is no need for you to watch the old trilogy (since it's nothing like Andor or Rogue one, it's fluffy pulpy fantasy - enjoyable though i find it). But Rogue one you definitely need to see it, if nothing else to watch the conclusion of Cassian's storyline.
why are people always saying this?? dont watch this or that? it would be so interesting to see them react to star wars movies so they coud know the whole story... I will never get this in a million years.. :D
The way you talk about watching A New Hope (the first SW movie) after Rogue One sounds like you are NOT planning on filming a reaction to it. I think that would be a massive shame! You don't seem to remember much about the movie, and it would be a proper conclusion to Andor. Just like Andor leads directly into Rogue One, Rogue One leads directly into the first Star Wars movie. A New Hope is not the end of the story either, but at least it's fairly self-contained, so it would feel like a natural conclusion. Personally, I would love to see your reactions to the entire original trilogy and perhaps even the Prequels (despite their problems), but I know this is a lot to ask considering how few movies you react to.
Please watch Rogue One after this it's a must 🙏🏼
if you don't upload a Rogue One reaction, we riot! The show's reaction is not complete without it. Please give us the closure we deserve!
They've already said they're gonna react to it
Kinda crazy to me seeing people say Rogue One feels like the finale to this show. Like yes obviously it carries on from where Andor leaves off but they're so drastically different in tone and style that I feel like Andor still stands alone just fine. Rogue One isn't bad as far as modern Star Wars movies go but there's a big gulf between it and Andor imo. Andor is an absolute masterpiece of tv while Rogue One is an ok sci fi movie
You say you want to watch more from the actress who plays Dedra, but you would also really appreciate her politics. Denise Gough who plays her is Irish and is pro Palestinian and very vocal about politics as a lot of Irish people are. IRL she’s the polar opposite of Dedra 😂
Less than two hours left to complete a masterpiece of oppression and revolution, a massive manhunt kicking off, and they still spend a few minutes giving us the fuckstick video guy trying to social climb off his cousin. Never change, Tony Gilroy. Please.
Oh no, I wouldn’t sit there Very funny to see this guy immediately after his bosses’ boss’ boss’ boss almost got arrested for backtalk
Realizing Andor ends next week and then One Piece season two drops..oh boy.
If you do watch the original trilogy (whether as a reaction or on your own), I think the best way to approach them is thinking of them like Cowboy Bebop. Yes, it’s very different from Andor. It’s a story of a group of people meeting who have all lost something - a farmboy with great dreams who has lost his home, a princess with great leadership who has lost all her people, a smuggler with a heart of gold who keeps denying himself his own humanity - who all, in their varied circumstances, get on a ship together and, in spite of their clashing personalities, work together to fight the Empire
Time to start the debate I guess. You should watch the Obi-Wan Kenobi series before Rogue One for context. This will help you with connection to the characters in the 1976 Star Wars movie. Chronologically the Obi-Wan series is set before Andor but it does not really matter what order they are watched in.
I don't think going from Andor to Rogue to A New Hope is going to be as jarring to them as we might think
Rogue one is what luthen fought and died for, same for andor and all the others, i feel like its the finale part of this story
As a patreon, I wish to put my vote in for a reaction to Rogue One is a must. It would be a travesty if we do not get your reaction. I would also like a reaction to Stars Wars part IV V VI I II III in that order but if not Rogue One is a must.
So are they going to react to Rogue One? Because that's practically the finale of the show for me.
It seems insane to hope for a 2nd reaction video of the same movie, but I would so love to see it for Star Wars after Andor and Rogue One.
despite the feeling of strangeness that you two have when you think about the films because they don't have the characters from Andor in them, I think you two would like to watch the original trilogy. But to be honest, I think you two would probably like the prequel trilogy more (prequel's haters coming to kill me and my family in 3... 2... 1), because the prequel trilogy delves deeper into the political themes than the original trilogy does (Btw, that's one of the reasons why the prequel trilogy gets some hate. Nerds back then didn't like that George Lucas spent time in those films delving into the political games from Star Wars's universe).
As many have said, the story of the prequels are best appreciated from a distance. The problem isn’t the politics, it’s the dialogue and the writing
The part where Krenic puts his finger on Dedra's head was not scripted. The actress that plays Dedra had no idea he was going to do that so her reaction to it was real. They kept the take in the final cut.
Are you suggesting you might watch Rogue One on your own and not for the channel? Because that would be devastating to so many of us.
Lola I agree Denise Gough is an amazing woman. This is an excellent interview with the journalist Mehdi Hasan that skyrocketed my respect for her. I’ve been wanting to share this for awhile now but couldn’t because they do talk about Andor s2 a bit including the last episode (which I assume you have already watched at this point but could be wrong so beware) https://youtu.be/V-gdodXHv4U?si=BvYaZrl4TFlfe8bR
I think for me the final episode of Andor really is Rogue One. The next episode will finish up the immediate story of will they survive the assault on the apartment or not, but the bigger story continues on into Rogue One. Also, if you’re curious about the timeline, Episode 12 ends one day before Rogue One begins, and Rogue One ends 10 minutes before A New Hope begins.
There was a viral tweet during the 2016 American elections that goes: "'I never thought leopards would eat MY face,' sobs woman who voted for the Leopards Eating People's Faces Party" and this episode is like a peak example of it. Like, Dedra, c'mon. I know you've been raised within this fascist system and it might be all you know, but you've literally been THE TRIGGER for a global genocide! You know what these people can do, and you think that unflinching loyalty means anything to them? But at the same time, she is such an interesting character to watch and I love her for that. I cannot WAIT for your reaction to the finale!
Fascinating to think that the Death Star got leaked to the rebellion because somebody forwarded an email to the wrong address. Like some military plans getting out because someone accidentally added a journalist to the group chat where they're sending them around.
There's an interview with Patton Oswalt where he gushes about how great Andor is, but he find that after you watch it you turn on the news and the real world is just like a really shitty version of Andor, with considerably worse writing and considerably dumber characters.
The strength you both have to not IMMEDIATELY start the next episode is *wild*
I love how you can tell that Ben Mendelson had a lot of fun playing Krennic in Andor
He is so good in every scene he is in.
There are alot of droids in Star Wars who have an AI that can develop some level of conscience, emotions, self-awareness, and unique personalities, often acting as sentient individuals rather than merely programmed machines (Although their programming still influence the direction of their behavior, some droids can have a AI developed enough that can deviate from it in a certain level). So although they don't connect to the Living Force, like organic beings from Star wars do, droids in Star Wars are considered mechanical life forms with emotional depth.
Droits in Star Wars have a prewritten personality on their memory chip that can be damaged or rewritten and simulates emotions for human interaction but can also lead to something like attachment when it's not wiped regularly like seen in B2EMO towards Marva and Kassian.
Lola is struggling to put into words why she now finds the whole idea of the original trilogy annoying and leaves a bad taste in her mouth, but I can try: 99% of people who watch this show are familiar with Star Wars, and at the very least, are familiar with the original trilogy. These two are in such a small niche of the audience because they aren’t. Most people are familiar with and enjoyed the original cast of characters before Andor was even a concept. Because she has no connection to the characters from the movies, she believes they must be clumsy and unserious interlopers who know nothing of the struggle, stumbling into the Rebellion to take the glory from the ‘real heroes’. I think not intentionally but subconsciously, it’s a matter of bias and first come, first serve. I’d really hope they take another crack at watching those movies because they are beloved for good reason. And while Andor is a political thriller and much more overt in its writing, George Lucas originally wrote the Empire and the Rebels based on the Vietnam War, so Star Wars has been political from the jump (like all art). Even the name of the common foot soldier is ‘stormtrooper’ very intentionally. I think they’d enjoy those films more than they might be giving them credit for just now.
Stormtroopers aren't necessarily just the "common foot soldier", both in SW and historically as the "Sturmabteilung" SA under the N*zis and the "Strumtruppen" of Imperial Germany (WW1). They are considered "shock troops" (or "Strusstruppen" in WW1 trench warfare), fulfilling paramilitary, recon and infiltration roles. The "common foot soldiers" of the Late Galactic Republic were uniformed like Sargeant Lear ("Luthen") or like Han Solo was on Minban in the more ill-fated "Solo" prequel film, and these eventually transitioned into something more like the soldiers you see on Aldhani or like Migs Mayfield (Bill Burr's character) in Mandalorian. It admittedly gets confusing probably because SW canon itself is confused and inconsistent regarding military doctrine and how it is applied and/or depicted in all its various media over these many decades.
It’s a rule of the universe that when a droid goes a long time without a memory wipe, it’s able to develop a personality. So yes, most Star Wars watchers think of droids as essentially sentient, even though many of the characters do not.
Ben Mendelson, who plays Krennic, did not inform Denise Gough, who plays Dedra, that he would be jamming his finger into the top of her head during the interrogation scene. The somewhat shocked look you see on her face when that happens is genuine, not rehearsed. None of us could tell you this episode ends on a cliffhanger. That would have spoiled it…for us.
16:58 - K2SO still retains all or most of his previous "memories". At the end of 2x09 when they reactivated him, the technician explains something along the lines of a "cortex" being subjected (subjugated?) to a reprogramming of his personality or mission directives. This seems to be a frequent trope of the SW universe, where droid memories are not always completely erased NOR perfectly retained whenever they are reprogrammed or repurposed. Therefore, it follows that K-2SO might still retain pretty clear (or pretty fuzzy) memories of massacring all those Ghormans, and his LAST memory before being reprogrammed is of attempting to kill Cassian and Wilmon.
11-12 really do play out like 1 giant finale episode. But man that scene of Dedra and Krenic is so fucking good!!! I especially love how when he eneters his eyes are off screen giving him a monstrous feel. When your shows main villain has bigger villain above her!
I really love how this is a cat and mouse episode in which both the ISB and Kleya feel sort of trapped and panicked. I really love Krenic’s performance there simultaneously sarcastic, sardonic and menacing. As you both said in the last episode she really loses because she must gloat to Luthen, show him how smart she is. I also really like how everyone is disavowing everyone else in the ISB. Heert (who, let us remind ourselves was Dedra’s assistant in season 1) blaming Dedra, Partagaz, Krenic and vice versa. No comradeship, no friendship, no human connection, what binds them is power and when that is in danger of slipping away from each of their hands they will throw everyone under the bus. The exact opposite of the people of Ferrix, Ghorman and, generally speaking, the rebellion.
5:48 - Hehe, sounds like you missed where Heert said that the ISB at first thought a "team of three" had infiltrated the hospital to kill Luthen. 😁
Kleya's "it would be you, wouldn't it" gets me every time for some reason. One of those moments where this show creates a weight between characters who've had very limited screen time together and makes you feel like you've been watching for way more than 23 episodes. The kind of writing and acting that makes it look easy. also fun detail I forgot about that I'm not sure if anyone filled you guys in on: at the end of episode 2 this season, when Cassian escapes from those chaotic rebels who are fighting each other, the final shot of the episode reveals they were on Yavin all along. That storyline at the beginning of the season is still probably the weakest in the show, but I love how it ends with the message that this place where the rebels are a scrappy unorganised mess will one day turn into the home of a fully developed resistance.
Have you already watched the finale? Ladies, how much do I need to donate to this Patreon for you to release it today? :D
I pray that they dont find the ending of S2 underwhelming, just always keep in mind that this entire shows existence has been to lead up literal MINUTES into rogue one. Once you watch that you'll understand why its ending like the way it is
I don’t think they will, because they’ve always been more fond of character>action and the finale has so many character moments and ends in such a beautiful way
Bring on the finale!
I really love it when Heert is asking the reason they will put out on why they are hunting Kleya, Partagaz says she has a very infectious disease. It reminds the viewer back in episode 4 of season 1 Partagaz viewing the ISB as healthcare providers, diagnosing and containing diseases (that was when the show REALLY hooked me). In that case the truth of the Death Star and the crimes committed to get it done is so dangerous for the empire he is panicking. As Luthen says, freedom scares them.
Luthen: “I think we used up all the perfect.” Milena and Lola: “this is perfect. You have a perfect thing and then you put a bow on it. And then sprinkles on top of the bow.”
I love how the tension is the classic Hitchcock-style “the characters don’t know they’re in danger, but the audience does”. I think Kleya (and Luthen too) thought that they are most useful by being at the heart of the Empire on the capital planet where, worse comes to worse, they can gather intelligence and maybe just do terrorism. Yavin is likely to be a prison for them because the Rebellion at this point needs to have its PR spotless and pristine through people like Mon (and the heroes of the movies like Luke Skywalker) without the people who have been doing the dirty work of revolution this whole time making them look like terrorists to the general public of the Galaxy. We see that sort of thing in real life too.
As Andor comes to an end, I hope we get a reaction to Interview with the Vampire or Penguin next
Haven't seen Interview with the Vampire yet, but second Penguin. One of my favorite shows of last year.
I know you already watched it, but please react to A New Hope after Rogue One. Seems you want to watch it anyways
😠 👇 😨
Lol! Yeah, that's definitely the scene of this episode.
“We’ll do our best to carry on without you” 😮💨😮💨😮💨 Ben Mendelsohn was TERRIFYING in this scene. I love how this show portrays villains like Dedra as untouchable throughout the series…only until their boss steps into the room and makes them coward in fear. Its such a good example of how the fascist machine works. Every worker is terrified of the person above them, and that pyramid goes all the way up to Palpatine himself
"I can't protect you, Lio." One of my favorite bits of writing in the whole show. All the writers need is a single sentence to establish a relationship with decades of history. In nearly every appearance he has, Director Krennic is dripping with arrogance. He loves demonstrating his power to those he considers beneath him, as we saw with both Heert and Dedra. He's almost always bullying or threatening someone, or at least treating them with disdain. But here he is with Partagaz, another Imperial bureaucrat of roughly the same age, and there's this clear respect and sympathy. They're on a first-name basis, and there's a genuine connection between two men who are so similar. They are both old enough to have been serving with the Republic during the Clone Wars, old enough to have seen the Republic gradually wither and die to be replaced with Palpatine's Empire. One can imagine they each saw their careers flourish by remaining staunch Palpatine loyalists as he claimed more and more 'emergency powers' and the Senate was increasingly sidelined. The two have likely known each other and worked together since they were young officers, maybe even came up in the academy together. It's doubtful they're the best of friends or anything, but the two are on good terms. They've probably gone on whatever the Star Wars equivalent of a golf trip is together at some point. Of course, they're both ruthless servants of a vicious fascist regime, so no doubt either one would throw the other under the bus to advance their career or avoid blame for some disaster, but they'd feel bad about it afterwards. And now they're both in the same situation, both of them looking at the very strong possibility of the Emperor punishing them for their failures, each of them scrambling to avoid that likely fatal outcome. And all of this sprung into my mind just from one little sentence.
Extremely well put. This is what great writing is, (and of course performances) just a few words that let us the viewer extrapolate entire relationships and histories by our own imagination. Andor is a masterclass in this.
Well, yet another Thursday you two and Andor keep me company while i unload the truck. I'm sad because when I do the next truck you'll be finished with this show 😭 Well, you just met one if my favourite droids of the star wars universe voiced by the amazing Alan Tudyk, who you'll hopefully meet when you finally start firefly 🤞🏻🤞🏻
Love that they wait till the 2nd to last episode of the show for a cliffhanger ending
Here campaigning once again for 'Heated Rivalry' to be put on the poll replacing this show or on the short show slot eventually!
Perfect timing as usual!
