Silence of the Lambs is a must see
Here's a way-too-early discussion: If they ever make it to the sequel Aliens, do they watch the theatrical release or the extended cut? I vote theatrical release as I think some of the added narratives in the extended cut aren't too polished.
No, I think the extended. It includes a deleted scene early in the movie that is very important for the arc the main character goes on (trying to be vague to avoid spoilers for who survives Alien, just in case). Even James Cameron said it should have been included in the movie but studio execs removed it.

Damn I was hoping Sinners would win, it's not really a horror movie but probably it's closest category. For this channel it would have been an excellent movie for them to react to based on the characters. Alien brand is so oversaturated right now it's hard to get excited even though it's a great movie too.

Oh man don't get me wrong all of these are great (Sinners a little overrated) but The Thing is basically a perfect movie imo and I think you two would actually enjoy it a lot with all the subtle character work going on in it despite being grossed out by the crazy practical effects
the thing is so much fun, sad its gonna lose. then again, every other movie on there is also a great time XD

All four are good choices. I voted Alien. The Shining is a masterpiece -- a work of art. Sinners is excellent (and refreshing to have a 2025 movie). My personal ranking: 1. Alien 1. The Shining (tie) 3. Sinners 4. The Thing
The thing is definitely the best one of them, but Alien is a close second, so it's still a good choice.
It's pretty obvious that the people voting for Alien don't know what type of movies/shows are good for the channel. I have no doubt that they will enjoy the film, but it won't generate even a 10th of the discussion that sinners will. Sinners is the type of movie that is made for them.
It's too late, Alien is a given at this point. But I hope they do watch Sinners on the channel. That they threw in among these venerable classics as a the odd man out indicates that they will.
I haven’t watched Sinners yet, so I can’t really give an opinion even though I hope to watch it soon. The other three options are great and definitely recommendable, but my favorite is "The Shining". As for the Alien saga, only the first and the second movies are truly good in my opinion( I haven’t watched "Alien: Earth", so I can’t say anything about that show). Also, have Lola or Milena already watched "The Others"? I don’t remember seeing it in their letterboxd. And as a personal general recommendation (not necessarily for a reaction). I suggest the argentine 2023 film "When Evil Lurks".
Alien: Earth has some good moments, but the 2nd half of the season was really disappointed. Some reviewers hyped it up as the "Andor" of the Alien franchise, which is almost an insult to Andor imo because it's so much better than Alien: Earth.
Chose Sinners not for recency bias, but literal recency. It feels rare to see them react to a movie the same year it came out. And the three left are all classic horror movies that I feel pretty confident will win polls sooner or later, well The Thing is more cult classic, but it's certainly in the same tier as the other two for myself in terms of personal enjoyment.
Movies in recent years are released on stream soon after the theater and sometimes simultaneously. Current year reactions are very common. Sinners especially has been a huge hit on reaction channels, the second it came out.

I'd vote for both The Shining and Sinners. They have more dramatic substance and characterization for the girls to dig into, which seems more their style in general.
The Thing is a masterpiece of horror, undoubtedly the best film in the history of the genre. But since it's between Sinners and Alien, I'll go with the good old classic Alien, a very good film.
If must only see one of them, it's Alien.

Do not watch the trailer either. It gives away so many twists. I saw the trailer only after seeing the movie and I was shocked by how much it spoiled, and how less of a movie experience I would have had if I had seen it first. I did already know the type of antagonists though.
I will be honest.. Sinners has to be the most overrated movie ever lol I don’t know.. that’s just me.

Four fantastic movies, but my vote is for The Shining, start with one of the best movies of all time that is also a horror…but then the same thing could be said of Alien or The Thing
I voted for Alien but there are a lot of passionate Sinners voters here too (understandly - it's a great movie) If Alien wins, perhaps the girls might consider just automatically watching Sinners next rather than waiting for another horror poll, which might be a long way off.
Counterpoint. If another horror watch is a long way off: 1) other movies may have been added to the recommendations by that point, and 2) Sinners will have lost some of its recency bias and other films might fare better in a poll + views.

After they tore down Cabrini Greens, they turned it into a softball field. I played 16" softball there for years. The last vestige of the gang would walk through our games from time to time to try to look cool I guess, but that's all they'd do. How the mighty have fallen.

I think Sinners is the best option for the post-reaction discussion (maybe followed by The Shining) but for a pure horror reaction while actually watching the film, I think Alien is better than Sinners (which would still be very good). Also, I really want them to react to and discuss Aliens and Alien is the gateway for that.
The Shining + Dr.Sleep
Shout out to Doctor Sleep! (the directors cut-it’s much better than the theatrical release) Now that they are doing movies it feels appropriate for them to cover Flanagan flicks since they reacted to his Netflix shows. I’m gonna keep hollering LIFE OF CHUCK until folks tell me to shut up lol. It was so good and wholesome as opposed to his usual speed.
Alien is the gateway to Aliens which I think would make for an excellent reaction video (Newt, etc.) so I voted to Alien. All four are great movies though.

If y'all watch for discussions and themes the girls vibe with, I'm not sure how Alien is the best choice out of all of these. It probably has the least interesting discussions out of the 4 movies listed here.

Loved Sinners, but it wasn't really a horror movie to me. It has horror elements in it, but it's more of a mixed genre film.

How can you even make a horror poll without Avatar: The Last Airbender (2010)?
Sinners is a brilliant movie and the others are undisputed and enduring classics that established their bone fides decades ago and continue to stand the test of time. The reason I chose Sinners is very simple: Sinners is rich and layered with a historical and emotional resonance that the others simply don't have. By far, it will make for the best reaction with these two - regardless of how I feel about the other movies. It's not even close, and anyone who thinks about this for two seconds should be able to see this.
The social commentary as well as music as a medium alone makes it the best choice for the girls even though the other movies are all classics

The Thing is the greatest horror movie of all time and usually has the most fun reactions, but Sinners is fucking great.
This is a pretty common thing I always see in a lot of reaction channels. All 4 of these are fantastic movies. But when you put the one new thing against 3 timeless movies, the new thing will always win.
Everyone yapping about what they think the best movie is on the list. No one talking about which movie would resonate and vibe with the girls the most nor provide the most interesting and emotional discussions. That movie, in this time and age, is clearly Sinners, even if it isn't the "best" movie on the list.
Happy with any of these winning but Sinners I feel definitely would hit deeper emotionally for the girls

Well, yes, because people shouldn't pick what they consider the best movie but something that will resonate with the reactors the most and provide the best reaction. Sinners is a great movie with a resounding message and commentary which I think will really resonate with the girls.

I’ll always vote for Stephen King even if they kind of butchered the book. PLUS that leads to the sequel Doctor Sleep directed by Mike Flanagan. Long days and pleasant nights!
I like the book and don't think it accurate to say that Kubrick butchered it. He adapted it in a way that substantially changed the work and I think it stands on its own. The later mini-series that did a faithful adaptation pales in comparison to the movie.
