Movie Recommendations
so we thought it would be easiest to do a google form so we can separate by genre, and then we’ll make a poll based on what we feel like watching the most.. here’s also our letterboxd so that you can see most of the movies we watched
ps: if you wanna add more movies to a category just submit another form after you submit the first one

Lord of the Rings and Shawshank Redemption!
Everything, Everywhere, All At Once. It's one of the weirdest but also one of the best movies I've ever seen, and it's very difficult to classify, so I put it in as comedy, action, and drama, but it could easily be sci-fi. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll feel lots of things, but it all comes together in the end.
Inu-Oh
I don’t even know if we can still vote on this and I didn’t even know you guys did movie reviews. A lot of the ones I put are series so I understand if you can’t do those (hunger games Harry Potter etc) but I would like you guys to do the standalone movies I put in
I need you to watch When Marnie Was There more than breath itself. Think about if Azula had a coming-of-age story.
Gintama is an anime for Anime Lovers. It can be very tongue-in-cheek while also having some of the most gut-wrenching epic battle arcs I've seen in any media.
Drama: Mulholland Drive / The Prestige Comedy: Royal Tenenbaums / Pulp Fiction / Election (1999) Action: MI:1 (1996) / Man on Fire Horror: The Ring (2002) / The Shining Romance: Eternal Sunshine / Lost in Translation Sci-Fi: Donnie Darko / The Fifth Element / Gattaca Thriller: No Country / LA Confidential Animated: WALL-E / Spirited Away Fantasy: LOTR / Hook (1991) Musical: La La Land Foreign: Blue (1993) / In the Mood for Love
Watch Shallow Grave, it hits trust me
Rambo First Blood, Shawshank Redemption, The Rock (1996)
old boy
I just submitted the form .. hopefully it still counts!
Surprised neither of you have seen Forrest Gump, but in that case it should definitely be on top of your list of dramas.
I would love for you to watch Aftersun(2022). I also recommend All of Us Strangers(2023).
some of my recommendations: - Animated/Drama/Romance: A Silent Voice (2016) - Animated: Grave of the Fireflies (1988) - Animated 2: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) - Horror: US (2019) - Foreign: City of God (2002) - Fantasy: Howl's Moving Castle (2004) - Musical: Wicked (2024) If I had to pick one of these for them to watch it would be "A Silent Voice," one of my fav animated movies in general. But I also REALLY like "Into the Spider-Verse"
If you're going to watch the HBO Penguin show you should watch The Batman 2022 film first.
I would love for them to watch the Chainsaw man movie
Basic enough list: Drama: There Will Be Blood (2007) Comedy: Rush Hour (1998) Action: The Godfather Part II (1974) Horror: A Quiet Place (2018) Romance: Kal Ho Na Ho (2003) Sci-Fi: Donnie Darko (2001) Thriller: Sicario (2015) Animated: The Incredibles (2004) Fantasy: The Green Knight (2021) Musical: The Lion King (1994) Foreign: 3 Idiots (2009)
your name
I dont know if they would like it but i think it would be cool of they reacted to music, or even show us they”re favourite songs/albums. Also really hope they watch arrested development( personally my goat of tv show comedies)
Out of everything I recommended I'm pulling for Cure (1997). I don't think it has a chance, but it's a phenomenal film that everyone should watch - specifically at night or on a rainy day. Kiyoshi Kurosawa is a master at diving into psychology, I remember watching it for the first time years ago and never had I been so glued to the screen.
none of mine will get picked but at least im happy with my recommendations
Out of all of the stuff I put in the Google form, I really just want you two to watch Marcel the Shell with Shoes On
Aftersun (2022) and Past Lives (2023) from the watchlists please!! Plus Mulholland Drive (2001) or any David Lynch film would be amazing really, Terrence Malick's The Tree of Life (2011) is a classic, and for a 'foreign' film the Macedonian horror film called You Won't Be Alone (2022) by Goran Stolevski is beautiful and stunning. Also State of Siege (1972) by Costa-Gavras for one of the first political thrillers, The Battle of Algiers (1966) too!
I'm amazed to see someone mention The Battle of Algiers here. I also nominated that one. Classic film that's aged very well.
Drama: Naked (1993), Amadeus (1984) Comedy: The Death of Stalin (2017), What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Marcel the Shell with Shoes On (2021) Action: They Live (1988), Inglourious Basterds (2009) Horror: Suspiria (1977), The Exorcist (1973) Romance: Harold and Maude (1971) Sci-fi: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) Thriller: No Country For Old Men (2007)
Good Will Hunting, Grand Budapest Hotel, Black Swan and the Dunes.
From the watchlists I would love to see Love Lies Bleeding, My Own Private Idaho, The Lighthouse or The Florida Project. All incredible movies and I don’t see too many reactions to them out there.
The Florida Project absolutely whips. Gorgeous movie.
As you've watched the series, I assume you've watched Violet Evergarden: the movie. If you haven't, you REALLY need to watch it! I would recommend a Korean film, 'Burning', which would count as 'Drama', I think.
As someone who very much liked Violet Evergarden the show, I loathed the movie. Without going into detail here in case they happen to be reading comments in this thread, I think it's best to pretend that it doesn't exist.
I don’t typically watch a lot of movies but I just finished Frankenstein on Netflix and it was really good I hope you girls add it to a poll. Also I hope you continue your studio Ghibli journey!!
Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein? Or another one? I haven’t watched that yet. Kenneth Branagh’s Frankenstein (1994) and James Whale’s Frankenstein (1931) are also excellent
Drama: Training Day Comedy: Airplane (1980) Action: Warfare (2025) Horror: Smile Sci Fi: The Fifth Element Thriller: Collateral Animated: The Iron Giant Fantasy: Big Trouble in Little China
There are many movies I love and recommend, but three in particular have deeply impacted me at different stages of my life: Amélie (Jean-Pierre Jeunet, 2001), Ikiru (Akira Kurosawa, 1952), and Into the Wild (Sean Penn, 2007).
Whiplash!!!!!!
Taxi Driver
Please react to Dune 1 & 2
Drama: The Assassination of Jesse James Comedy: The Big Lebowski Action: Sicario Horror: The Wailing Romance: Amelie Sci-Fi: Blade Runner 2049 Thriller: Old Boy (2003) Animated: WALL•E Fantasy: Big Fish Musical (kinda): Scott Pilgrim vs. The World And in Foreign, a coproduction from 8 countries, one of my absolute favourite films, and just at the right time now that you are watching Andor ... Diarios de Motocicleta (The Motorcycle Diaries)
BTW Diarios de Motocicleta is about the life of the Che Guevara
Drama: Forrest Gump, Into the Wild, The Florida Project Comedy: Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Life of Brian, Rush Hour Action: Logan, Enter the Dragon Horror: When the Evil lurks, The Others, Saw Romance: Amélie, Lost in Translation Sci-Fi: Predestination, Another Earth, The Arrival Thriller: The Usual Suspects, The Game, Seven Animated: Your Name, Up, Encanto Fantasy: Pan's Labyrinth, D&D Honor Among Thieves, Jumanji Musical: Wicked Foreign: Ikiru, Anatomy of a Fall
Personally I love the Coen brothers , so I'm putting in a bunch of their movies: No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading, A Serious Man, The Big Lebowski, Fargo, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Inside Llewyn Davis, Barton Fink. (Most fit into multiple categories anyway.) I'm interpreting "foreign" as non US-American, so I got Pan's Labyrinth, Amélie and Roma (because I saw Roma on of their watchlists and I thought it was good).
I submitted multiple forms. Drama: The Godfather Part II (1974), Dances With Wolves (1990), Lincoln (2012), 12 Years a Slave (2012), Glory (1989), The Pianist (2002). Comedy: Back to the Future (1985), Forrest Gump (1994), The Big Lebowski (1998), Sideways (2004), Midnight in Paris (2011), The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019), Adventureland (2009), Roman Holiday (1953). Action: Pulp Fiction (1994), Apocalypse Now (1979), Saving Private Ryan (1998), Braveheart (1995), Platoon (1986), Children of Men (2006), Thelma & Louise (1991), Wonder Woman (2017), Sin City (2005), A History of Violence (2005). Horror: Nosferatu (2024), Sinners (2025), The Fly (1986), Zombieland (2009), Tucker & Dale vs. Evil (2010), The Silence of the Lambs (1991), The Exorcist (1973), Black Swan (2010), Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992), The Shining (1980), Misery (1990). Romance: Lost in Translation (2003), Good Will Hunting (1997), An Officer and a Gentleman (1982), Vicky Cristina Barcelona (2008), The Illusionist (2006), Suite Française (2014). Sci-Fi: Planet of the Apes (1968), Starman (1984), 12 Monkeys (1995), Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), Minority Report (2002), Prey (2022), Moon (2009), The Terminator (1984). Thriller: The Shawshank Redemption (1994), Goodfellas (1990), Gran Torino (2008), In the Heat of the Night (1967), The Bourne Identity (2002), Spotlight (2015), Argo (2012), Bridge of Spies (2015), Blood Diamond (2006). Animated: The Secret World of Arrietty (2010), WALL-E (2008), A Bug's Life (1998), How to Train Your Dragon (2010), Kiki's Delivery Service (1989), Beavis and Butt-head Do America (1996). Fantasy: The Green Mile (1999), Pleasantville (1998), Donnie Darko (2001), Groundhog Day (1993), Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory (1971), Pan's Labyrinth (2006). Musical: Sing Street (2016), Wicked (2024), Singin' in the Rain (1952), The Blues Brothers (1980), Cabaret (1972), The Wizard of Oz (1939), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), Enchanted (2007), Rocketman (2019). Foreign: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2009), Past Lives (2023), Let the Right One In (2008), Amélie (2001), Drive My Car (2021), Godzilla Minus One (2023).
I think the old Planet of the Apes (1968) + the new Planet of the Apes movies (2011-) would be awesome!
I dont remember what i picked for every categoty. But the gist of it was City of God, Eternnal Sunshine on the spotless mind, Psycjo, Grave of the fireflies, Mulholland Drive, Pans Labyrinth, etc. I guess Psycho is on the older side. But its a classic. It basically started my interest in movies when i was young. And the script more iesss makes it tailormade for reaction videos.
Good list. Unfortunately, they both have watched Eternal Sunshine according to their Letterboxd.
Considering the bit this whole time has been that they don’t really watch movies I’m a little gutted that most of my favourite films of all time have already been watched by Lola. ☹️ Looking forward to seeing what others recommend though.
Drama: Whiplash Comedy: In Bruges Action: Oldboy (original) Horror: The Others Romance: Yesterday Sci-Fi: Arrival Thriller: Nightcrawler Animated: The Iron Giant Fantasty: Pan's Labyrinth Musical: Team America Foreign: Parasite
Nice list. I submitted The Iron Giant. But Parasite and Nightcrawler are shown as watched on Milena's Letterboxd. I submitted Train to Busan and then realized later it on Lola's Letterboxd.
Forrest Gump! Didn't see it on your letterbox and haven't seen any one else recommend it yet but it's up there with Godfather as a must watch classic
Oh shit for Drama you guys should react to Little Miss Sunshine!!
Y’all should watch city of god
Horror: Rosemary's Baby Action: Terminator 2 Romance: Romeo + Juliet Thriller: Bound Fantasy: Princess Mononoke / Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Drama: There Will Be Blood / Shoplifters Comedy: Sorry to Bother You Sci Fi: Alien Foreign: City of God
Alien and There Will Be Blood are good.
is this the first time they revealed their letterboxd? milena and i both have Portrait of a Lady on Fire in our top 4 ♡ i see Arrival (and The Handmaiden!!!) is on milena's watchlist, i hope lola hasn't seen it yet as well! (can't find it in her watchlist) i'd like for them to react to it
damn lol i feel like a dick not checking their watchlists. The Handmaiden would be a great pick for them
Please react to the “movie” Pluribus. 🙏🏻
I meant to put The Grand Budapest Hotel on my list. It might be my favourite movie
I got Song of the Sea for animation, shoutout to Cartoon saloon top tier animation studio! Hope others also recommend some movies from there! Hope they react to the handmaiden, I saw portrait in Milena's top 4 and instantly thought of it 🤭. Have more than one foreign films I am afraid! 😞
Where did Milena even see Sorry Baby??? I think that movie only came to about 30% of the US didn’t expect it to have such a large international footprint.
god i want to hear her talk about that film so bad. i wish in one of these movie reactions she brings it up in an intro or outro
I did not know where to put American Psycho and decided on Comedy, but it's somewhat Horror/Comedy lol. It's one hell of an experience. The acting is greaaaaaat
I recommend Perfect Days. I feel like it's something they'll enjoy.
Fellow person of taste :D
It’s the perfect time of the year to watch It’s A Wonderful Life
I'm primarily going for movies from before 1990. Trying to come up with some classics that people will vote for. Here's what I came up with. Only two after 1990. Drama - To Kill a Mockingbird Comedy - Planes, Trains, and Automobiles Action - Raiders of the Lost Ark Horror - Jaws Romance - Casablanca Sci-Fi - Robocop Thriller - Rear Window Animated - Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse Fantasy - Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind Musical - The Sound of Music Foreign - City of God
Jaws is good.
Donnie darko
My choice for each genre: -Drama: A Silent Voice -Comedy: Pom Poko -Action: Sword of the Stranger -Horror: Perfect Blue -Romance: Your Name -Sci-Fi: Ghost in the Shell -Thriller: Paprika -Animated: Suzume -Fantasy: Howls Moving Castle -Musical: Given: The Movie -Foreign: The Boy and the Heron Here are some films I have seen and others I would like to see
Ghost in the Shell👍
Good Will Hunting
Also, unless you absolutely hated Godfather 1, y'all really need to watch part 2.
Facts. I’m one of the dudes who says part 1 is their favorite but 2 is arguably a better overall movie. The young Vito stuff from the books they couldn’t get in part 1 is amazing. Baby faced Bobby D! lol
Not to be a hater, But Lola has WAY BETTER taste in movies than Melina. Lol
You say that, but Milena has Before Sunset in her top 4.
Train to Busan is always a good reaction movie. Excellent filmmaking.
Train to Busan is listed as watched on Lola's Letterboxd.
Wow both have seen Leap Year!! I swear that movie continues to surprise me each year
I am so glad one Lola watched The Worst Person in the World. One of my favorite movies ever.
I recommend checking out Sentimental Value. I believe it is in theaters now. It is Joachim Trier's new movie after The World Person in the World.
If they watch a comedy it hassss to be Little Miss Sunshine. If you haven’t watched it you should.
I know it just came out, but I hope they watch the new Frankenstein movie; they would love it and it would ruin them 😭❤️
If I'm reading LM's letterboxds correctly, neither of them have seen Shrek 👀
Oh my god, you are right!!!
I am really hoping they get to see ‘Return to Seoul’. It seems like nobody has reacted to it ever and it’s phenomenal.
Aww Milena's already seen Nightcrawler. I would have loved to see your reaction to Lou Bloom
I put "Avatar: The Last Airbender (Live-Action movie)" into the Horror genre. Should be fine I think :D
🤣🤣🤣
Neon Genesis Evangelion or the NEW CHAINSAWMAN MOVIE
I don’t use letterbox but I clicked the Lola one and the first thing that I read was this review for a movie she saw and I couldn’t stop laughing for 3 minutes..idk why I found her review funny lol: “this movie was just an hour and 50 minutes of torture because the entire time i was just thinking how i would kill to have one of those sandwiches” lmaoo
Lola watched The Man From Earth 😢 But if I’m seeing correctly, they haven’t watched The Shawshank Redemption, 12 Years a Slave, The Green Mile, or The Terminal. They’ve seen all the live-action Spider-Man movies, so the Spider-Verse trilogy would be awesome for them! Also no Back to the Future on their Letterboxd?! And no Disney or Pixar animated films? The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Mulan and Encanto are must-watches! I really want them to watch Rise of the Planet of the Apes and the 3 sequels. The movies are so good and so underrated. For something foreign, The Hunt is fantastic. And for Christmas time definitely Klaus!
The stars are aligning for Shawshank 😎
The Grand Budapest Hotel
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas
Johnny Depp, Benicio Del Toro, Tobey Maguire ...
I suddenly forgot every movies i’ve ever watched. Especially as someone who watches about as many movies you guys watch in a year lol. You’ve already seen some of my go-to picks. Put down Rush Hour for comedy but i simply do not believe you guys have never seen it. You must’ve forgot to add it to Letterbox? Or i missed it? I wanted to avoid putting movies with sequels but i HAD to put down Dune for Sci-Fi, i STILL think about Dune 2 semi-regularly so we need to get you on that train.
I think you two beautiful women need a introduction to a classic American icon... Clint Eastwood. He's been in Hollywood his whole life but in his later years he has created some of the most beautiful cinema in history. He writes, directs and lead acts in these two films I'm recommending. 'Unforgiven' is a western that is probably one of the best in its genre. 'Gran Torino' is a beautiful story of acceptance and loss (think a subplot in an episode of 'The Wire'). Love your reactions, and make sure you watch 'Rogue One' after the 'Andor' series (can't wait!!!!)
Hope it’s fine if I condensed The Rocky series of movies in to just the franchise. I just didn’t want to spam a new mostly blank entry for each one.
Guys, push A Silent Voice, Wolf Children and Suzume! 🥺
Nah, now I'm 100% sure that they got replaced by AI. A schedule, thumbnails, movie reactions and a Google form for requests? What will happen next? Regular double episode drops for anime? 😂
Maybe they are advanced AI this whole time🤯
have they watched interstellar? that would be my top pick
they linked their letterbox so you can see what they have watched
lol what does Foreign mean to two Serbian* women that reside in Spain?
theyre serbian hahahaha
I apologize in advance for the Godzilla Minus One spam (not really sorry🤣)
Nice. My foreign film recs are Godzilla Minus One, Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, and Parasite.
Sorry I submitted twice because I didn't know I could add multiple entries per line. Ignore my first entry. Or if it overwrites it then ignore this comment lol.
You can add multiple entries per line??? (vader_noooooooo.mp4)
Nicija Zemlja
Mulholland Drive. If we’re not getting Twin peaks we gotta get some Lynch
YES PLEASE!!
Godfather 2 is the most obvious choice given you guys loved the first
oh wait could we put more than one movie in a category lol I was struggling on drama😭 ultimately put Walter Mitty down
Definitely pushing Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse for the animated category. It goes beyond the norm for superhero movies in my opinion, and gives you a great understanding of the character. For other categories I’m vouching for Black Swan, One Battle After Another, The Substance, Sinners, tick, tick…BOOM!, We Live in Time, and Sorry Baby. Anyone else going for any of those?
also pushed for spiderverse but I put it in action so I could slip coraline in the animated category!
If you enjoyed both Before Sunrise and Everything Everywhere If you wanna see Frodo, the Hulk, Rose from Titanic, MJ from the old spiderman films and Jim Carrey in one film If you wanna cry at the end - Eternal Sunshine of the spotless mind
I highly recommend SCENT OF A WOMAN (1992) for your next movie watching experience because it is perfect for this upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday season here in the US. It stars Al Pacino who earned an Oscar award for Best Actor.
I put Portrait of a Lady on Fire for like 3 categories.
they have watched it already, at least Milena has
Gotta start in 2007 for Dramas. There Will Be Blood, No Country for Old Men, Michael Clayton. 🙏🏼
also, question, should i put every anime movie in animated regardless of their genre?
I also want to know cause first what I did was putting -A silent voice in romance -Perfect blue in thriller -Red line in sci-fi -Princess mononoke in fantasy
Uh, I'm sure you two are way ahead of me, but be careful. Popularity contests are already stupid ... and they're worse on reaction channels (where most people just go "I like this so you will like this" ... and they're worse with movies than tv shows. Most tv shows that people want reactions for are recent and very good. Most movies that people want reactions for ...... have their good qualities, but most people have abstracted them (via nostalgia) into *infallible pieces of art* that everyone must and will like and they've stopped thinking about whether or not two specific people will enjoy them.
People are paying money to watch the reactions. The reactions should be stuff that people pay for. The cost of them watching a movie they don't vibe for 1 slot is exponentially lower than committing to a TV show they hate. It's an experiment, it's all good!
For foreigners, I'll recommend one from Brazil, Ainda Estou Aqui (I'm Still Here). It's about a true story experienced during the military dictatorship. We won the Oscar for best international film this year 🇧🇷❤
i’ve been meaning to see that! are there any other brazilian films you’d recommend?
I'm fine if the only movie that makes out of my recommendations is THE FIRST SLAM DUNK, my favorite movie ever and I think yall would love it
ohh, Lola, I thought you had watched A silent voice.... did you end up not watching it?
My hopes are up! A Silent Voice is awesome!
Whoooo boy. Am I seeing this correctly: neither have seen Shawshank or Forrest Gump? If so, then I gotta start with the blue chip classics
Oh no you already have watched parasite 😭 such a nice surprise that Lola have watched intouchable I didn't expect you to watch something french maybe one day you could even react to a french show/movie lol
Done and done
They gotta watch Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Sinners.
lol anyone else immediately follow them both on letterboxd?
im so excited!!! this is really happening!!!!!
Of course, we are going to recommend the least traumatic movies that will be full of enjoyment and nothing bad ever happens🙂↕️ You can trust us😈
Oh. This is really happening
this is my oscars/superbowl whatever
Is it ok if we just fill everything with Lord of the Rings?
yes
I recommend Wong Kar-Wai's "In the Mood for Love"
I was debating either that or Chungking Express
Lola having watched 'LOL' and 'Project X'..... yeah we're the same age alright
You know I've gotta hit 'em with ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER (digital release on Friday btw)
Sinners
I wish I vibed with Sinners as much everyone else. The action stuff in the third act just didn't work for me.
This is great, will check the letterboxd later so I don't recommend anything you've watched but some recommendations will come for sure.
Can we assume that Godfather 2 is a given since they’ve already reacted to Godfather 1 and two is considered to be just as good?
i pray for times like this
Grave of the Fireflies
Taking this opportunity to shout out It’s Such a Beautiful Day by Don Hertzfeldt it’s animated but unlike anything else. It’s stick figure animation and it will properly blow your minds. It will be unlike pretty much any movie you e ever watched or any animated show from cartoons to anime https://youtu.be/ecn9YiqqHyw?si=fvnHxO8jDOh4FEX0 Also, you watched a bunch of Mike Flanagan shows so I will also shout out The Life of Chuck. It’s a Stephen King novella and is not a horror story at all. Flanagan can adapt Stephen King stories better than anyone else at the moment, he is this generations Stephen King whisperer lol. Seriously though, this movie was legit and also different than most of the flicks and stories you will see these days. That’s a movie it’s good to go in as blind as possible. Trailers did a good job not ruining anything too. https://youtu.be/jlN1Mmj6YNo?si=UcaUc4G07TTy8G5C
Amazing movie (three shorts I guess)... But man, you really are gonna make them cry, I sure did in the end!
I really appreciate you guys doing more movies. There are loads of great movies that would result in equally great reactions.
was gonna recommend The Worst Person in the World...both have already seen it. Love that fucking movie. Also for as much as you talk about not watching movies you both have a lot of stuff watched on Letterboxd
Letterboxd is too addicting to use 😭 https://boxd.it/9gvPX I need more mutuals on there if anyone wants to follow :) I feel like if are all part of this community we must share similar tastes in movies 😬
Thanks. Gonna go wild with this 😄
