Will you girls watch a movie once a month or…? what’s the plan? 👁️
One of the characteristics of Studio Ghibli, especially Hayao Miyazaki's films, is that they are both entertaining enough for children to easily understand, and artistic enough that even adults have difficulty understanding them. This film is considered a prime example of that. This film is entertaining enough even if people don't understand its themes, but it's very difficult to understand its themes. This is because Hayao Miyazaki keeps the theme hidden. To understand this theme, I think it will be helpful to know Miyazawa Kenji's Japanese fairy tale "Night on the Galactic Railroad." I believe the theme of this film is similar to that of this fairy tale. This fairy tale is known to many Japanese people, and I believe that Hayao Miyazaki made this film with this in mind. If you're interested, you should check out the 1985 animated film "Night on the Galactic Railroad." By the way, "The Boy and the Heron" is a highly artistic film with little entertainment value. In other words, it is difficult to understand. I believe this film is for select viewers.
This film was created by the legendary Hayao Miyazaki. He is a highly influential figure for many Japanese animators and manga artists, and is a pioneer who established anime's popularity in Japan, notably through his work with Studio Ghibli. I strongly encourage you to see his other fantastic animated movies. Be warned that Grave of the Fireflies is a profoundly sad film that requires preparation to watch, but Howl's Moving Castle is a highly recommended movie full of imagination. Furthermore, even if they are slightly older, I also highly recommend titles such as Castle in the Sky and Princess Mononoke.
A 'Your Name' reaction would make my year. Please make it happen!

It was a really nice surprise see this upload here. Spirited Away is one of my favorite movies and just last month i saw a screening of it in a movie theater. It is such a beautiful movie.
Since no one else has mentioned it I'm going to add a recommendation for Kiki's Delivery Service. Another Ghibli and one I really think they will love.
I'm in Japan right now and they do drive on the left side.
Godfather Part 2 / Chungking Express / Princess Mononoke / Scenes from a Marriage (TV)
You guys really need to watch Godfather 2 at some point. It been disappointing that you never followed up the first one with it. I personally think 2 is the better movie.
Hi girls, a little suggestion: would you please consider setting a theme for the movie recommendation post? It can be a genre (like romantic, sci-fi, western, thriller, crime, anime, etc), a country (like Japan, Korea) or even a festival (like Christmas). I'm just worried that there will be millions of classic movies for you to choose if you don't define a scope.
my favorite animated movie of all time still, the amount of emotion the last 30 minutes induces in me is crazy to this day,, also I second the howl's moving castle recommendations!
You would adore Howl’s Moving Castle
Yesss! And the English Dub please
Honestly, I think Everything Everywhere All at Once would be a great movie for them to react to
I believe they've seen it.
In addition to Ghibli films, I hope you girls will watch a Satoshi Kon film like Perfect Blue!
Anazing movie and really insightful commentary girls! My 50 cents on movies to react to from different genres and different countries (if possible) -parasite (2019) - shoplifters (2018) - monster (2023) - in Bruges (2008) - a moment of innocence (1996) - city of god (2002) - cure (1997) - pan's labyrinth (2007) - there will be blood (2007) - thin red line (1998)
parasite will be so goated, it's at the top of my list for them currently
Holy shit, it's my favorite Ghibli movie
Hi girls, Just letting you know — the logo in your thumbnail isn’t the original Japanese title. Here's the proof: https://www.reddit.com/r/translator/comments/1i988dt/japanese_english_spirited_away_poster_subtitle/ The correct title looks like this: 千と千尋の神隠し If you want to change the thumbnail you can also refer to the Japanese poster to find the correct logo: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spirited_Away#/media/File:Spirited_Away_Japanese_poster.png
Holyshit.. Christmas’s came early? Or the girls are actually reacting to movies now? What’s going on? Is this real life?!?!?
LM just watched the highest rated animated movie on IMDB, so it would only make sense if they now watched the highest rated live-action movie on IMDB (Shawshank)
I was thinking of recommending it, but I’m sure they have already seen it. There’s no human on Earth who hasn’t watched it.
Studio Ghibli movies like this one are fascinating for their unconventional storytelling. They build tension and resolve it not through confrontation but by shifting perspective. This comes from their use of a four-acts structure that emphasizes development and contrast over direct conflict, allowing stories to unfold through reflection and subtle change. Many other Studio Ghibli films follow this same approach. Also, many Studio Ghibli films, especially those directed by Hayao Miyazaki, draw deeply from Japanese folklore and Shinto beliefs. His stories are often inhabited by nature spirits or gods (kami), reflecting a worldview where the spiritual and natural realms coexist. Another key element in his work is environmentalism and the consequences of disrupting the balance between humans and nature. I’ll leave here this article about some of the symbolism in Spirited Away: https://screenrant.com/the-japanese-folklore-that-inspired-spirited-away/
I just read that Haku is voiced by a 13 year old Suga from Haikyu and it broke my brain a little
Such a surprise I’m so excited to see what you think!!
You can analyze so much about that movie. But you got most of it. The whole story is about growing up, remembering who you are and resisting corruption in a world obsessed with greed and consumption. The Boiler Man (Spider) represents the working class, those who keep the world functioning behind the scenes without recognition. He is mechanical and overworked. He produces the energy that powers the bathhouse. The bathhouse represent our modern society, especially capitalism. It runs on greed, appearance and servitude. Spirits come there to be cleansed, like a old ritual, but here it’s commercialized. Something spiritual is turned into a profit-making enterprise. And Chihiro’s challenge is to move through this system without losing her identity or morals. Yubaba takes the names of her employees, their identity, and strips away their individuality, to be just a gear in the machine of the bathhouse. The river spirit represents pollution and environmental destruction. Rivers connect humans to nature, they give you life. They also represent memories, flowing through the mind. That's why Chihiro's first memories came back with pulling out the trash out of him. It's also why Haku helped her to remember. No Face you got perfectly too. He reflects the desires of those around him. When he enters the bathhouse, surrounded by greed, he becomes gluttonous and monstrous. He represents loneliness, consumption and the corrupting influence of environment. The only part that I have difficulties with is the train scene. I think it just represents transition and is a moment of self-reflection to calm down and think. In general, Ghibli is known for throwing you in a magical world without any explanations what is happening around you. I would say "just go with the flow", because if the writing team wants something to happen they just bend space and time, like the scene with Haku remembering his name and both of them falling down, just to be able to fly with magic. I think the only "real" Ghibli movie is Grave of the Fireflies.
when the wind rises is also “real”
Furthermore, studio ghibli movies are mostly hand-drawn, they use traditional methods of making animation where every frame is drawn and colored by hand
Ghibli is in that aspect a real old classic. But they also used CGI in The Boy and the Heron.
this movie is directed by Hayao Miyazaki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli. He has created other incredible and crazy, adventurous and original stories such as: Castle in the Sky, Princess Mononoke, Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, The Boy and the Heron and many more, but these are my personal recommendations!!
Lowkey hoping the next live action movie can be a lesbian movie: Ex:The favourite
Portrait Of A Lady On Fire would be good too
I would love to see Howls Moving Castle afterwards, but I also think it would be interesting to see Grave of the Fireflies and that some people would be keen to see it with you (:
Grave of the fireflies is definitely a must see for them.
you should react to all the ghibli movies, really :3
Next: Howl’s moving castle
omg yes
They need to react to 'AKIRA'
Not me wanting them to watch Kurosawa, Tarkovsky and Bergman
Andrei Rublev reaction when??
I'll be honest I'm not the biggest fan of ghibli movies... The only reason why I watched Chihiro was because my nephews were and I fall asleep in the middle of it lol. But hey I'm totally open to try again!
I'm speechless. It's my favourite Ghibli film so far. I'm so excited, and this is just the beginning. Thank you so much!
howls moving castle and the boy and the heron 🤍
What is happening??! Two movies the same year?? Wow
Movies!? In my lm reactions?! Preposterous!
They need to watch more ghibli! They would love Whisper of the Heart, just a nice wholesome romance <3 we need more of that in this channel lol
An incredible movie
Wow. This is a surprise. Such an excellent movie. A* to whoever recommended this one.
No movies starring white American people please. Pretty much every reaction channel already does those movies. It would be great to have somebody doing movies from around the world and in languages outside of English.
If you are going to be doing more movies going forward, one suggestion I would have is to have themes for certain recommendation periods. Like animated, classic (pre-1990), maybe horror movies around October, etc... Something like that.
Yeah, I don't begrudge anyone their interests, but I can already foresee a lot of the stuff I'd be interested in voting for getting absolutely walloped by the anime vote here. (Spirited Away rocks, though. No complaints about this one!)
Anime movie recommendations: - A Silent Voice - Your Name - Wolf Children - Suzume - I Want To Eat Your Pancreas - Weathering With You - Grave of the Fireflies - My Neighbor Totoro - Perfect Blue - Redline - Tokyo Godfathers Christmas movie: Klaus Live action: - Dunkirk - Batman: The Dark Knight - The Green Mile - Terminal - Parasite (2019) - Memento - The Hunt (2012) - Bicentennial Man
70% of anime movies are tearjerkers, could we add 'Night Is Short, Walk On Girl' and 'Ghost in the Shell' for a bit of variety?
"It has kind eyes" about No-Face fucking SENT ME hahahaha
Yess I'm so happy, thanks girls!!
Nice little Sunday surprise, movie is so dope. Anyone out there see Pluribus yet? That first episode was legit. Need to watch the second. Vince Gilligan is a tv making savant!
Have they ever mentioned if they’ve watched or would watch neon evangelion?
I think they're waiting for Frieren s2 before starting another 24 eps or longer anime.
What just happened?! WHAT?! Okay guys, I watched Psycho Pass. I know what you have done. The AI is really good but bring the real Lola and Milena back.
Yoooo, looking forward to what options appear on the poll.
Look Back Hive better show up in full force tomorrow
For what?
Also super important note for whenever you watch Your Name (hopefully you'll remember this): please make sure your version of the movie translates written text. Many important parts of the movie have things written down on screen and some versions don't subtitle/translate them.
awesome girls! Welcome to Studio Ghibli ! And yes I hope you can also watch "Your name" from Makoto Shinkai soon. And others movies from Studio Ghibli, Makoto Shinkai, Satoshi Kon, Mamoru Hosoda and several others great anime films1
WOAHHHHHH LMReactions randomly uploading my favorite movie of all time. I've been blessed for absolutely no reason.

Well THIS is a nice surprise. Definitely recommend other Studio Ghibli films in the future. I think you'd probably enjoy Princess Mononoke in particular, but they're all great. I love this movie, it was an obsession of mine as a kid, and I still hold a lot of feelings toward it.
Thank you for blessing us with the annual movie reaction 😂🙏
