We're getting such peak episodes this week. 37 and 38 + the first episode of pluto. Peak after peak after peak
rip pluto and takopi
I really have to praise Urasawa. He is creating such impressive stories but always prioritizes the characters over the plot. His style of writing is so unique. When we watch Pluto, you literally feel the same style. It's just so much fun. I still hope we will get an anime adaptation of his best work, 20th Century Boys, in the future. I recently found a fan-made anime trailer, and it's just hype. It would be so great! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XvfZG642HY Urasawa also enjoyed watching it: https://x.com/urasawa_naoki/status/1724426703005422052
20th Century Boys is definitely Urasawa’s best work. A lot of people consider Monster his magnum opus, but I think 20th Century Boys shows him at his absolute peak. Personally, I see it as one of the greatest mysteries ever written, and a perfect example of Urasawa prioritizing story over characters—whereas in Monster, it’s more about characters over story. Not that he neglects either in both cases, but you can clearly see the difference in his writing approach. Plus, the fact that 20th Century Boys is nearly twice as long as Monster really shows how much deeper he went with the narrative.
You should watch 38 and 39 together. :D
“The Nameless Monster” is incredibly important to the story of Monster. A creature splitting into two and one half devouring hosts to find his name is the perfect analogy to the lives of the twins. The east-traveling monster clearly represents Johan, and the west-traveling monster represents Anna/Nina. Johan’s life literally follows the monster’s pattern. He drifts from one guardian to another, briefly adopting identities (names and roles) only to turn on and destroy those who knew him. I will not explain why he followed the book unintentionally. That is part of the second half of the story. But the story shows that Johan learns he can “find” himself, his own identity, by building trust and dominating others (devouring them), much like the monster seeking a name through consuming others. By contrast, Nina is content with her life despite having no original name and a painful past. She embraces the identity she got with her loving foster parents. The west monster in the book says, “I don’t need a name. I’m perfectly happy without one”. Likewise, Nina eventually accepts that she can be “Nina Fortner”. Her unnamed past does not have to define her. Whoever she was, it does not matter. She has a big life ahead of her. It was only when Johan reappeared in her life that she was devoured by his destructive nature. The book’s east/west split also parallels post-1945 Germany. After 1945, Germany split into two states: the Federal Republic of Germany (FRG, West) and the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East). Each half developed its own politics, economy, and culture, two different trajectories, much like the book’s monsters. A divided child who longs for identity maps easily onto a nation split in two and populated by people whose identities were reframed by competing political projects. Reunification in 1989–1990 brought rapid integration, but it also caused a kind of structural consumption. East Germans were given new legal categories, jobs, and civic statuses, yet many of the workplaces, networks, and cultural practices that had once defined their identities collapsed almost overnight. People in the East had to take new names and new roles. Now the monster in the East searches for its original identity, a strong, powerful one, like the society of the socialist GDR or earlier regimes, while the West has accepted the new identity built after World War II.
I can relate Lola. I never cry with TV Shows but there are three scenes in this show that made me cry like a bitch, not because something terribly sad necessarily happened but because of the emotional weight of the scene. And the best part is they are all incoming (you've yet to see them).
Will you let us know when they get to those scenes? I'm curious what they are :o
Hey guys, Invincible back in March
this made me think about how 2026 is going to be really busy for the short show schedule, Andor reactions go until the beginning of March, Invincible S4 comes in March and before that Fallout S2 will already have been released in December of this year, HOTD, One Piece Live Action, The Boys and The Bear also come back probably between May/July I don't know how, but they will find a way lol
here it is the reason of my username ✨️
I hope that you will be reacting to Pluribus on Apple TV. It’s the new show by Vince Gilligan and starring Rhea Seehorn from Better Call Saul. It premieres on November 7th. It’s about a woman named Carole (played by Seehorn) who is the "most miserable person on Earth" but immune to a virus that causes perpetual happiness and optimism in others.
This was an insane episode ! As good as this show has been so far, the truth is that it gets massively better moving forward. Still waiting for my favorite character of the show to appear, if you know you know.
Damn I can’t wait for Pluto tomorrow…( let me cope damn it lol)
you're so delusional as Robert hahaha, let me join you guys 🧘🏻♀️
So far everything is very good, but from episode 40 to 74 is one of the greatest masterpieces your eyes will ever see
Half way. And believe it or not, the 2nd half is better than the first
