Andor 1x01 Reaction

The fact that people have spent 2+ years writing essays to the girls about why they should watch this show, and Milena still thought it was a Marvel show is so hilarious to me
Honestly, I'm a huge Star Wars fan, I grew up watching these movies. I'm not going to be that guy and go out here telling you two to watch every Star Wars movie, but I would definitely tell you to at least watch Rogue One when you finish this show.
Mad Men + Andor. Where will I find the time? I'll figure it out.
So excited for you girls to experience this show! Just a quick note. I have the opinion that watching Rogue One before Andor and knowing what type of character Cassian is/becomes really enriches this story, kind of like watching Better Call Saul after Breaking Bad. It's not necessary, but i guess that how i would recomend this show for someone. Either way this show is really really good.
I understand thinking this way, but I'm more curious to see it the other way around (first Andor, then Rogue One), as it's more unique.
Since you've already seen episodes 4 and 5 once you've seen this show you will have watched all the good Star Wars things and you can stop.
Oh yes
I just realized that 2025 is year of Kara. Mad Men and Andor. She got everything she wanted 😂
"We fight to win. That means we lose. And lose and lose and lose... Until we're ready."
Im really looking forward to how they will react to Syril Karns storylinr. Hes kind of like the "Pete Campbell" of Andor; weak, pathetic, vulnerable and starving for validation. Lola always seems go have a soft spot for those kind of characters.
I literally had the same thought but I didn't say it cuz i didn't want to hype him up too much. he is pete coded fr
Immediately some interesting thoughts on Cassian and the inspector guy in the review. And for what it's worth, when this show started, people with Star Wars knowledge didn't know the planets and settings in this episode either, and Cassian is the only character you'd have seen before.
Girlies, just FYI no Bear episode went live on YT yesterday. 4 and 5 went live at the same time last week (mistake / forgot to change the date for 5?). 6 went live last week, so it should be 7? unless you're taking a week break to account for 4 and 5 going up at once.
I think they do a break. I just hope we fix the upload distribution more evenly on YouTube, so all of them are 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 weeks behind Patreon.
Wait did i hear you correctly? You'd like to watch more sci-fi shows? Another reason for you to watch pluto after chainsaw man then!
Is Takopi a Sci-Fi show? 🤔
I am so excited for this, wish it was twice a week!! I was dying laughing at Milena's lack of star wars knowledge in the intro
Given how politically aware and active these two are, these reactions are gonna be a treat
I think people under estimate how it’s possible to be unaware of Star Wars. I show my GF the beginning of the first movie and she had never seen death Vader before. She said ‘who is he and why is he dressed like that’.
In fairness, I haven't seen Death Vader either ;)
Nah I thought my knowledge about star wars was embarrassing but Milena beats me here💀😂
Finally! I love Rogue One so would love a reaction. Even if Lola has seen it, I think you'd see it in a new light after Andor. Andor -> Rogue One -> A New Hope have a direct continuation, although the first two were made as prequels to the former. I'm making assumptions though as I still haven't watched season 2. First season is great though, they'll definitely love it.
oh no 24 episodes of trash star wars
25 actually if they want to watch Rogue One 🥰
fwiw i think episode 3 is the moment that hooks most people to the story. also as a frame of reference andor s1 takes place 5 years before the events of E4 A New Hope (1977). other than that really excited for this journey, i dont think it’s hyperbole to say it’s one of the best series ever (as well as being incredibly prescient to our political reality atm unfortunately)
Ok not likening Empire Strikes Back is crazy. Still love you guys tho
right? the superior movie!
If you want to see a film following the end of the series the best follow-up isn't Rogue One it's Y Tu Mama Tambien. Stars a very young Diego Luna and is subtly anti-capitalist and anti-fascist.
+1 for y tu mama tambien i loved it
I knew general Star Wars knowledge because it’s so huge in pop culture but Andor was the first star wars thing i ever watched and i loved it. I then proceeded to watch Rogue One. Yesterday i finished the last of the prequel movies after making my way through all 6 original movies so i guess i’m a star wars fan now (and a prequel trilogy defender). Despite its flaws i was charmed by the prequel trilogy, but maybe that’s because Anakin was exactly my type of character (if you like Eren Yeager and Paul Atreides then you’ll probably like Anakin). I’m a sucker for characters who spiral into villainy. I’m about to start The Clone Wars animated series and read the novelization of the prequels and possibly read a few comics recommended to me by mutuals. I’ve been completely sucked in, be careful girls 😭
The last a few seasons of Clone War were really good. Rebels and Bad batch were the follow up animated series after Clone War.
Rewatching this episode for the first time in a while, it's crazy how much Cassian's superpower is talking. After the inciting incident, this episode consists mainly of him going to every contact he knows, and calling on every possible favor. Even as he's being told by every single person they've had enough of his shit, he still manages to mostly get everything he wants. Even Brasso, the friendliest of the bunch, says he won't lend him any money unprompted. 😂 You really get the sense people have been carrying water for him for a very long time. Also the scene with the inspector complaining about timing of the 'accident' due to an impending regional command review and crime rates could have been taken right from The Wire. It was uncanny.
I thought of The Wire too lol. There you go giving a fuck when it ain't your turn....
Oh hell yes.
Having only watched the intro so far, I'll say it again: Andor may take place in Star Wars but it isn't interested in the same things as the rest of the franchise. The rest of Star Wars only cares about bloodlines and magic, and only moves in the grand scope of mythology. If George Lucas directed Fellowship, you wouldn't have one frame with hobbits, and it would exclusively feature Aragorn and Gandalf. Tony Gilroy, on the other hand, is entirely interested in bureaucracies and ordinary people. He takes the world and characters seriously, and wants to show the 'slow struggle against systems of injustice'. Honestly, the difference couldn't be more stark, and it makes recommending this show a bit tricky to people with very valid pre-existing opinions about Star Wars. I'm glad you're going in with little information honestly.
That seems a little unfair to Lucas, at least early on. ANH is as Hero's Journey as it gets, and Lucas didn't decide to make Vader a Skywalker until he was writing ESB. Back in 1977, it really was just a story about a rando moisture farmer who saves the galaxy.
Oh boy I’ve been waiting for this reaction for years this is my favourite show of all time ❤️❤️❤️😀😀😀
Basically: Yes, political power in the galaxy has been consolidated under an emperor. This is a relatively new development. The galaxy was still a republic fifteen years ago. Nominally, this Galactic Empire governs the entire galaxy... but the galaxy is huge, so it has less actual control and oversight on relative backwater planets like Morlana One and Ferrix.
ah yes the lesser known K-Drama Andor!!
For first-time watchers, I want to say this: like all the best stories, Andor is a deliberate slow burn. It takes its time setting up the world and introducing the characters and their way of life, but it is worth it 100%. This is great writing
The girls tryna recall the name of Yoda was absolutely gold😅
Out of all the brilliant shows they could be watching rn, you dorks got them reacting to paint drying. 😭
what a dorky comment
This will be funny. I'll watch along as I have a close friend who has an acting and speaking part in S1 but I've never bothered or found time to watch him in it. 🫣
Haven't watched the full yet, but that intro was absolutely fantastic!
It's a huge strength that they know so little about the universe. It'll make for great content.
not sure what you mean, they know "Han Solo", "Yuba the Frog" and "Zendaya from Dune", that's loads
Started the Andor reactions in Korean is a first in a reaction I’ve seen😂 But in all seriousness you guys were able to key in on so many themes from this first episode that I have no doubt you’ll love the show by ep 3
I've known about Star Wars pretty much my whole life so it is difficult for me to view Andor through the eyes of people with limited knowledge of it, but I think Andor is crafted so that newcomers to the franchise won't be lost. That is certainly one of the strengths of the show.
When my sister and i watched it and they mentioned “the emperor” we were like “omg they mentioned darth vader!!” so it’s an interesting experience for people who vaguely know the story of star wars lol. I’ve since undergone a serious education in star wars (watched the movies)
I mentioned in some comment section a while back that the general audience watching Andor has significantly more baseline knowledge about Star Wars than these two will do. Will make for a unique reaction series to be sure lol
I have some star wars knowledge(watched every movie and 2 seasons of mandalorian). Do I need to watch anything else before Andor?
Lmao at how clueless they are on Star Wars in the intro, but I’m loving every minute. Will be a fascinating watch.
Look how much they got from just this episode. I’m gonna love these reactions so much
Some helpful lore to know the show wont teach you. This series starts 14 years after the formation of the Empire. Prior to that, the Empire was a Galactic Republic with an elected chancellor & senators from each planet. So when anyone refers to “the republic” that is what they are talking about. The republic was at war with a faction of planets called “the separatists” that wanted to break free from them. That war ended when the empire formed, and the empire has ruled unchecked since. How that republic became the empire…well thats a story for another time ;) Enjoy :)
The pre discussion was so funny
I'm genuinely crying laughing.... this is the most insane context for an Andor reaction possible! Milena thought it was a MARVEL SHOW! for years she's been like "oh yeah Andor, he's friends with Spider-Man". Lola and Milena both watched A New Hope 5 years ago + liked it but hated Empire Strikes Back because it focused "too much on Luke (boring!)" and stopped. Lola remembers pop culture details but Milena can't remember who Darth Vader is. They're trying to figure out if Star Wars has 'super powers'... "there's the mandalorian with the green person Yubo", Lola has seen JYN/CASSIAN EDITS FROM ROGUE ONE!!! i'm dead 💀💀💀 in a million years i would not have guessed this context. its perfect 🥺🙏 this might be the greatest project for the channel yet. the YouTube comments are going to be unhinged. lets fucking gooooooo
It reminds me of Malcolm from The Thick Of It describing Star Wars: "The one about the fucking hairdresser, the space hairdresser and the cowboy. The guy, he's got a tin foil pal and a pedal bin. His father's a robot and he's fucking fucked his sister. "
The Korean at the beginning cracked me up. I didn't even realize it at first because they speak so often in an alien language, I thought that was the case here too :D
B.B.Y. is how years are recorded in starwars lol it stands for "Before Battle of Yavin" which is the final battle of episode 4 when Luke blew up the Death Star (Also the year Rogue One takes place, the movie Cassian is from) So this is 5 years before Rogue One & A New Hope, 14 years after Revenge of the Sith
The pre-discussion was so funny to watch. And it's funny how both of them watched more Star Wars than me. Never finished a Star Wars Movie and I only watched 20 minutes of the first and about an hour of number 7 :D
funniest thing is that they didn't like The empire strikes back, which is my favourite out of the 11 movies
Yay, Andor! Can't wait to see how you guys like it. I hate the term (Blank) for Adults! but it is like the most adult and relevant show on streaming right now.
An original trilogy rewatch after Andor & Rogue One hits DIFFERENT 😮💨 & yes Rogue One after Andor is a must, its essentially the series finale
My interpretation: Pre-Mor Security Inspection team = ICE agents in the US. Fat, stupid, power hungry, more focused on exerting control and punishing normal people than on security.
As a life long SW fan the fact that this private security firm was the villain here might be what hooked me the most. They're not storm troopers, they're not literal nazis, they're corpo-cops--the violent arm of capitalist oligarchs that is allowed to exist because of lack of direct oversight from the empire itself. The Empire's boot is hovering over our characters without a single imperial character ever needing to be seen!
Firefly keeps getting screwed.
It wasn’t until Andor that I realized I apparently have a type, and that type is ‘anti-authoritarian sci-fi.’ They should definitely see Firefly when they get a chance.
Credits….Misallocated Kalkite….Foliated Blue Noodles….Decimated Enthusiasm….Calibrated
YESSSSSSSSSSSSS LETS FREAKING GO
This is where the fun begins
Yay Andor but boo Disney rn
What if I told you that Disney did not change
yeah, literally just got home! really exited about this one. i only have a couple episodes left of s2.
I can't believe we are actually living this moment
Boys, we made it.
Andor? I hardly know her !
We have friends everywhere! There is no world where you girls don't love this show, enjoy the ride <3
Peak television begins now 🫡
I'm starting with you! I've never seen it. We can be lost together lol
Let’s goooooo. Also if you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask us.
Guys, should i watch this show? Is it good?
Yea, it's generational
I used to pray for times like this
