I've always wanted you guys to watch this one but kinda just assumed there wasn't a chance. Surprised to see it here now! Based on all the shows you've loved (that I also love) I genuinely think you guys would like this anime despite others saying this isn't up your alley haha.

i read the manga a couple years ago but i hadn't checked the anime yet. i knew the animation was great because it's mappa exploiting their staff after all. pochita's sacrifice still hurt as much as i remembered and i can't wait to see power, aki and denji's dynamic animated, it was defiently my favourite part of the anime except for maybe hating on makima lol i did like the manga and it gives jjk vibes so that's a win for me, but i am one of those who think this may not be up their alley, here's hoping they end up loving it though.

I really like this first ep as an introduction to the series. It tells you everything you need to know about Denji. The most interesting part for me is that "Empathy" seems to be Denji's greatest strenght and weakness at the same time. After coming back to life, Denji, instead of being angry, immediately emphatize with the Yakuza. Even though their situations were completely different, he thinks "they wanted more, they are just like me". Denji has so much empathy that i think it starts being harmful to his sense of self worth. That is one of my favorites scenes in the story, and one of the reasons why Denji is my favorite character

You both are gonna love CSM. It is so sweet, weird, violent, funny and sad.

Nah media literacy is actually in the dumps judging by these comments. Don’t get me wrong - you can dislike a show and how it presents its themes no matter how deep and interesting these themes are. But some of these comments beating their chests at how shallow CSM is are just baffling. Also, anime has a big issue with gratuitous sexualization but this doesn’t mean that all explorations of it are problematic. Idk if it’s kids speaking about this issue or what but the need nowadays to censor everything and have “no unnecessary nudity or sex scene” has swung the pendulum into a puritanical discourse that doesn’t allow desire to be explored be it sexual or otherwise. This is not an anti woke rant or anything. I am very much about addressing problematic aspects of media but the girls a big grown up girls that understand how puberty and finding yourself works in coming-of-age works. CSM may seem lowbrow because it’s very raw and realistic in its portrayal of these desire unlike other anime which in their need to be more marketable don’t even have their love interests even hold hands until the last episode

I remember enjoying it but not finishing the season so i guess this is my chance to wrap it up. I’m curious how they’ll react to how sexuality is presented because it’s reminiscent of fan-service in anime but it seems to actually have a point. It might take effort to look past how it’s framed though, but i trust them to see that more than i do anime fans lol.

i know you girls have high emotional intelligence so i’m not worried lol just know that every scene, even the UNCOMFORTABLE ones happen for a reason

It's crazy how the first season is really good and it's still BY FAR the worst part of Chainsaw Man. The movie and eventual season 2 is going to be insane given the source material

Fantastic reaction, super insightful commentary as always. Loved how Lola shed a tear during the resurrection, that's the moment that hooked me I think. If you feed me a story with the heart of it being about a boy and his dog you've got me committed unfortunately :') Can't wait to see you guys continue!

The first season of this show is one of the best things I've watched, period, and that has everything to do with the brilliant direction and cinematography. I found out that the Japanese Manga fans *hated* it, because it was different than how the comics looked, and they pressured the studio into letting the director go... I don't know if I'll be able to watch the future seasons without feeling a ton of disappointment

I feel people often misalign this show due to it's sometimes lowbrow sensibilities, but you have to consider what it's about. The core themes of the show are about desire, why we want things and want to live our life a certain way, and most often how those feelings and desires relate to the relationships between men and women, specifically through the filter of an initially naive 17 year old boy. Some of Denji's comments and behaviors in this season can rightly be called very immature, but I find that people call what happens in the show "fanservice", or somehow believe this means the writer shares those views with Denji, or that he is using the story as a vehicle for those thoughts, when he very clearly isn't. It's hard to say without spoiling anything, but there is a moment a few episodes into this season that I find to be pretty significant for the future implications of his character, and how that dynamic of his character is going to change. TL;DR Chainsaw Man is about sexual desire as much as it is any other kind of human desire, if not more so, and the show's irreverent and lowbrow attitude leads people to conclude the focus on sexuality is a surface level gratification by the author (despite very few, if any, actually raunchy shots that are typical of actual fanservice), rather than the deeper look at these kinds of feelings that it actually is. CSM is a very sexually charged series, but it's not fanservice.

This show really took me by surprise. I watched the anime with no background and was hooked from the characters, enough to ignore the obnoxious teenage sexual angst. And then I read the manga and was blown away. The characters really develop the further the story goes and the emotions feel so genuine. I care so much for these characters in a way I haven’t in another anime since Attack on Titan.

26:15 I just realized we are watching Christopher Moltisanti’s movie about the mob guy coming back to life with his body parts replaces with knives and chopping up his mob bosses.

LETS GO!!!! I'm sure I'm not the first to say this but this show would've hit a lot harder if season 2 was already out or coming sometime soon. But I can't wait to hear your thoughts about this show! I trust that you guys can have normal and mature conversations about what's to come unlike a lot of the dudebro side of the fandom, I can't wait for the next episode!

The part about the poll was so funny. Having no idea Milena was rooting for it, I first voted for Bocchi thinking how much they would love it. But then for a second I was like oh, Chainsawman! before going no they will love Bocchi. But when i saw Bocchi losing I thought, should I be nice and throw Stein's Gate my vote? BUT THEN when I saw Chainsawman was going to win I went back to Bocchi just to show it some love. All that to say, I was part of the 7% Milena!

I genuinely think the dub is better and I watched it in sub first but I didn't comment cause I knew it wouldn't go anywhere. nothing wrong with the sub I enjoyed it a lot but I was pleasantly suprised by the dub and I only watched it to see how good it was for my friends that only watch dub

Pluto or another anime with the same tone as Chainsawman is Dorohedoro. Also this is one of the few times when I disagree with the sentiment about Cyberpunk but hey.. I don’t like Frieren and people love that anime so I guess there is that lol

I decided to watch CSM out of curiosity after it won the poll, and despite really disliking the 1st episode, I actually grew to enjoy the show quite a bit. I will also say that the uncomfortable, fanservice-y scenes age pretty well in hindsight once you see the story develop and realize that they serve an actual narrative purpose. Could the story have presented Denji's desires in a more subtle, less over-the-top way? Sure, but anime has set the bar low so i'll take it lol

I agree so much about Cyperpunk. One of the best first episodes of a series ever to me. But downhill after. Also, poor Stains;Gate. Perhaps it should be taken out of its misery and never placed on a poll again :/

What people should take out here: Fight scenes bore them. So that should actually get Demon Slayer thrown out of the recommendations completely. Jujutsu Kaisen is kind of similar to Chainsaw Man, but with even more action scenes :D

Not only the opening. The entire anime is filled with references to movies because the author absolutely loves films, as he has told in interviews. For example, the zombies in this episode are a reference to George A. Romero’s zombie movies. The most obvious reference is to the horror film The Texas Chainsaw Massacre that's the inspiration for the "chainsaw". It is not really important for the plot just a fun easter egg for film lovers.

The author of Chainsaw Man, Tatsuki Fujimoto, also has a movie called Look Back. It is not related to CSM, but you should definitely watch it. It is a beautiful and emotional film. It is really short, only 58 minutes, and I am 100% sure you will love it even more

For the 12-episode anime before Frieren S2 I strongly recommend Puella Magi Madoka Magica. It also centers around female protagonists. But of course you can just directly pick Bocchi the Rock after Chainsaw Man. I would be perfectly happy for either one : )

When I first watched this I liked the story enough even though a lot of it made me uncomfortable but ngl a lot of the fans ruined it for me. I was watching reactions and a lot of reactors were glorifying and making jokes about the disturbing elements in this show and it made me distance myself from it. I felt like I was being gaslighted. Similar to how milena stopped watching black sails bc ppl didn’t care about a rape scene in it and it made her like the show less. I’m gonna give it another go with you girls bc I think your discussions will help restore my faith in humanity lol

People swear that the controversial scenes have purpose but I don’t think so 😆 And I think just like with Arcane season 2 and Cyberpunk they will see through it but hey I’m ready to be wrong

Its so good to have you both on Chainsaw men and have the usual great charchter analysis, emotional Intelligence and understanding of what the author is tyring to convey and the themes that are being tackeld. Its the kind of show that some other big reactors only watch on a surface level for hype and giggles and completly ignore everything else. But there is so so much more there to explore and I'm really excited to hear your thoughts. Hopefully this paves the way in the future for my favortie work from this Author "Look Back", which is one of my favorite stories in the medium of Manga/Anime and shows his range in storytelling

I keep seeing comments about things that are apparently so horrible it will make them drop the show. I don't think it will be a problem for adults who can tell that something happening in a story doesn't mean the author condones it

Seeing LM react to Chainsaw Man evokes the same reaction as seeing penguins in Argentina. I understand why they’re there and how we got there but my mind instinctively goes “you’re not supposed to be here.”

The story has great characters and a great story. It just has uncomfortable scenes that have thrown off some people. The thing I will say is this. Every uncomfortable scene happens for a reason nothing is thrown there just for the sake of being thrown.

I would have never guessed you disliked Cyberpunk more than Death Note 🤣

My fellow patrons, just hear me out on this, don't go ballistic on me Ok girls, just gonna be that guy and give you the heads up. Chainsaw Man is a great story. I love it and a lot of people here love it also BUT, there are some scenes that MIGHT leave you wondering why you are watching this/make you feel uncomfortable etc. I know you girls picked this out of the hundreds of other anime we recommend, to be honest I/we wanted to wait until Season 2 is at least out because you are only getting half of the first storyline. A movie is coming out but, that might drop on Crunchyroll near the end of 2025 but, definitely 2026 and we have no idea when S2 is out Not gonna tell you what ep will make you question why you are watching/make you feel uncomfortable (very sorry 😔) but, if at any point in the season you want to stop, don’t feel pressured to drop it, most of us will understand and sadly a lot of people will try and convince you to watch the entire season or reach a certain episode because “that’s when the story ‘REALLY’ gets good” (absolutely hate when people do that) Hope you enjoy it and hope you go into it with an open mind, it’s a really great anime/story
