This is the episode that actually pissed me off. I always thought people complaining "wah wah the adaptation isn't like the source material 😠😠" were being babies (or worse, active bad actors who just wanna harass women etc). There's definitely some of that, all adaptations must ADAPT the material for the new medium. But you can watch side-by-side videos of the game scenes and the show scenes and it immediately shows all the mistakes. In the game Ellie is tormented and a driving force behind the action, sweeping up everything in her wake. She's still a YOUNG 19yo, she's still VULNERABLE, but she isn't goofy... she's dangerous and worse, putting herself in danger, mourning her surrogate father in every moment. Yet still she has a sense of humour and a quiet hope, coaxed out by Dina, as their relationship evolves organically as they stalk their prey thru Seattle. The show obliterates this. The writing and direction choices make absolutely no sense. Can Craig Mazin write women? Why did game director Neil Druckman co-sign this? The mind boggles. It wouldn't surprise me if the show was cancelled (or unceremoniously wrapped up) in S3. I really think people are going to disconnect from the story moving forward based on the choices made, and where the story has to go in S3. HBO announced Craig Mazin is developing 'new shows set in the expanded Last of Us universe'.... they're literally trying to The Walking Dead style franchise the IP lol.... abby please take me on a golfing trip...

When did HBO announce they are doing a new show in the TLOU universe? I can't find the announcement. I know WBD recently split into two companies (film&TV and cable) and the WBD & HBO part might get sold again. Man I wish Apple just buy WBD&HBO even though they don't need it.

Minnesota and Oklahoma City being in the WESTERN conference finals when both states are closer to east coast will never not be funny 😂

??? Oklahoma is colloquially west. It elicits old timey western imagery. Indian territory. Dusty towns and trading posts. It's well west of the Mississippi River, which for 150+ years has been the de facto East/West delineator. And the T-Wolves sit practically right on the Mississippi, so either conference makes sense. There's really only one team that's geographically out of place in the Western Conference - the Memphis Grizzlies.

Moving the "Future Days" flashback was the biggest self-own of the season. Where is the bittersweet connection between Joel and the guitar in the music shop? Where is the context when Ellie plays the song next episode? What were they thinking?

This episode to me encapsulates a lot of my issues with season 2. I love the story itself and in the game as well, but in my opinion the show really did Ellie dirty. Her and Dina don’t talk about whether they kill anyone else in the way until right before, they make up plans as they go along and survive by dumb luck, banging tank lids and making noise. In the game, Ellie and Dina operate both more intelligently (and emotionally intelligently, minus the pregnancy scenes). It’s just weird to see a 19 year old Ellie still act 14. Again, just my opinion.

I'll say you (the player) were controlling Ellie's action, so you can be intelligent and stealth your way through most danger or go full Rambo (less intelligent move) and kill everyone in the TV station. Game Ellie was also cracking jokes with Dina in Day 1, being reckless, and careless at time (like her encounter with the PS Vista girl), but she's also capable of getting out of danger by herself. That's like the biggest miss of her characterization along with her lack of all consuming rage by Day 2 & 3.

This episode is where I can understand most people's issues with the tone of the show. I never played the game but from what I can understand from the people that did is that Ellie/Dina was already a pretty established relationship before they left to go get revenge, in the show they waited until after Joel died to build their relationship, that meant they had to show them get together while on this journey, but in an attempt to do that this episode felt more like a romance story, just Ellie/Dina falling in love and going on a normal run of the mill patrol together instead of what it actually was, a revenge mission. From what I gather by this time Ellie in the game had one thing and one thing only on her mind, whereas show Ellie was finding the time to fall in love and enter into a relationship, and unfortunately that does change the tone quite a bit, and in contrast to the Isaac scenes it did feel like we were watching two very different shows at times. I do appreciate the show taking the time to show us Ellie/Dina's relationship but I do think they should have showed it to us before Joel died, so the tone of the show didn't get complicated. Like from what I've heard, the scene of Dina revealing she's pregnant is played out very differently in the game, especially in regards to how Ellie handles the news, the show made it a much more happy version, and in doing so it does sort of change what Ellie's mindset is at this point of the story so I can understand people's frustration.

Yeah, they should've stuck to the source material on this one. The changes that were made in season 1 worked because they never disrupted the core story or characters, but in this case, giving Ellie a reason to be happy while in Seattle completely goes against what her mind should be at this point. I also believe that this change removes some complexity from her character.

The current time of the show is 2029. It's crazy by season 4, we gonna caught up with the timeline of the show lol because it takes so fucking long to make these big budget shows

This episode is so funny cuz Dina finds out that Ellie is basically Jesus in their world and she has no further question. Also the tone of this “revenge quest” is really bright for how dark the story is. I dont think Ellie falling in love is compatible with her being on a dark path for vengeance

Seattle Seahawks. edit: is the nfl team

You're going to trigger Seattle fans with that NBA discussion, haha. Seattle used to have a team, the Seattle Supersonics, they moved to OKC and became the Thunder in 2008. Kevin Durant was already on the team when they relocated.
