Monster Episode 1 Reaction

Ahh I’m so hype you are reacting to monster. This is why I subscribed

its good to be back fellas. peak

After watching the first 10 episodes of Monster (CBM version). I have to say, it is incredibly overrated so far. The show is such a time piece of early 90s and early 00s drama serial thriller, that you'd think it was a banger and to see that its an anime, just evokes "Wow, it must be so interesting". It's really not. I wish I had watched this in 2004-2005 around the time of its release because I would have been blown away. In the current context, it's just not that good. Incredibly generic in its dialogue, its scenes, the way characters describe what's happening and the symbolisms. The twists and turns are so telegraphed that anyone that has watched more than 5 TV shows will be able to see them a mile away. It is a soap opera thriller with no substance that can only be appreciated if you transport your brain in to 2004 and dismiss everything that has come out in the last 20 years of anime. Which its not its fault but it makes the experience just "okay", not something I'd want to sit through 74 episodes for, especially after hearing how polarizing it is towards the end because of its pacing. I wish you good luck, girls. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope you can find it engaging enough to dip your feet in the puddle of water that is the depth that this show has for 74 episodes. I'll give it 10 more episodes cause apparently the 15 episode mark is when "it gets really good, trust me!".

It feels like 'Monster' is connected to the childhoods of many. THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

We Code Geass fans have been waiting for years👴😄

cannot believe the day has come. You're so not ready for how good this story is. It's my first time watching the anime because i only read the manga i'm so excited!! And who told you monster was very dark? It's dark sure but it's more nuanced than that. It's a very human story so there is also lot of beauty in it. You'll see for yourself but the impact that monster left on me is similar to vinland or orb let's say. Don't get me wrong, those stories are very different can't even compare and i personnaly love monster more but they are similar in the way they made me feel. They can be very sad but i never felt like i wanted to end my life or anything it's quite the opposite in fact. And since i mentionned orb on the movements of the earth, i really recommend this show to you. It's a 25 ep finished anime so i hope you'll consider it afet bebob. The writing is stunning and i know you'll love it.

Instant patreon join, oh man here we goo

i'd vote for JJK because I enjoy rage baiting from time to time (also I think JJK is quite enjoyable, dont kill me)

Yessss

Oh my god i waited forever

I'm sure someone has already suggested this, but you might want to remember to check out the after-credits “slideshow” story. (This will become more important in later episodes)

Please dont watch it on netflix try 9anime instead

You really just need to do a two episode minimum for this anime.

Wow. My single favorite anime.

Monster is literally the worst anime to watch one episode at a time regardless of the episode, every episode is a bad one to watch by itself.

YES MONSTER, MY TIME HAS FINALLY COME IT WAS BEEN SO LONG THAT I WANTED YOU GUYS TO WATCH THIS, MONSTER REALLY IS A HIDDEN TREASURE THAT I HAD THE PLEASURE OF DISCOVERING AND WATCHING A LONG TIME AGO AND I THINK IT'S THE KIND OF ANIME YOU TWO WILL REALLY LIKE.

I will be honest.. it feels weird without the original soundtrack. You know what.. I’m laughing out loud to some of the ideas you guys are throwing. The themes and characters are definitely going to stick with you girls. Is a slow burn but a worth it one. Also shout out to the most bloody poll in LM history.. I don’t think that one will ever be top.. EVER.

Wow, time goes surprisingly fast. It's summer and Monster has arrived. I was expecting it to come later in the Summer. I hope you did watch multiple episodes at once like you mentioned. So that any comments this first episode don't spoiler you. For me, when I first watched this I binged all episodes so fast.

Aughh I'm frustrated that they're stuck with the netflix version. I haven't seen it but the first episode has me worried the new soundtrack changes the tone too much. If at all possible you guys should try to get the originals! I think some people have posted good links here.

I found it funny and cute that they somehow remember the main character by his first name Kenzo, rather than Dr.Tenma which has constantly appeared in the show. I think his first name was only mentioned once in the episode and they somehow remember it.

https://archive.org/details/Monster-Upscaled This is a link for original Japanese Monster in 4K, with all the original music and EDs as they should be. The files under ‘Matroska’ are the ones without compression. NOTE: the files need to be opened in a media player like VLC or Windows Media Player to access the subtitles To my knowledge, this is the best version that’s easily available.

Just in case you didn’t see Robert’s comment below this is set in 1986! I’m so excited for this journey 😭😭😭

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH

YESSSS FINALLLYYYY IVE WAITED SOOOOO LONG FOR THIS PEAK

1:39 that expression made it VERY clear Lola has no interest in watching JJK LOL.

1:40 as a haikyuu fan who likes jjk you are absolutely right Milena :D

In case it got lost in the flood of comments on the poll, here's our Discord where we'll be discussing Monster in separate channels for spoilers and no spoilers https://discord.gg/H5s5Sdbm

Personally I would like Jujutsu Kaisen or Demon Slayer reactions.

WHOOOO I watched this like 2 years ago and like the journey it goes on is wild

I started watching this a few months ago because y’all were starting it, bout a little more than halfway through it right now and its amazing. Holy peak 😭🙏

The Monster setting is incredibly interesting. It begins in 1986, in a Germany divided into East and West. The Soviet Union only 4 years before its collapse. Turkish guest workers remain and do not return to their homeland, which was viewed negatively by many conservatives at the time. Today, many Turks stand together with conservatives against Arab immigrants/refugees in Germany, which is somewhat ironic 😅 I'm really looking forward to your reaction to the show. It might feel more like a live-action drama than a typical anime, since it lacks many of the classic anime tropes. (HBO was very close in adapting it in a Live Action show.) Urasawa has a very unique way of telling stories and writing dialogue. It's often natural, but can also be quite raw and intense. I really recommend his other adapted story Pluto very much because of that! His best story "20th Century Boys" is still only in manga. As for Monster, one thing I’d suggest is to keep asking yourself: What defines a monster? And when does a human become one?

Lovely...but sopranos 6x01 still blocked

We lab members, Steins;Gate fans, also stand firm together.

we have arrived

This is up there with Frieren for me as my top 2 anime shows.

I feel like the girls would absolutely love Spy x Family! Such a light, cute and funny show. I know they’d absolutely fall in love with all of the characters

This is a top 5 for me easily with Hunter, AOT, and Bebop

LETS GOOOOOOO

im excited!!

The Japanese Monster version has better music choices imo (it's the original). The Netflix version is International. Honestly, I know Monster's music by heart and a lot of people agree with me that the changes in the International version are odd. I don't know whether Crunchyroll has the same music placements as the Japanese one, but try to find Monster with the same HD quality and with the Japanese music score if possible. Both the International and Japanese versions have the same score I think but they use different tracks at times. The music that played while Tenma was contemplating going back to the child was ill-placed imo. They replaced the track "Drift Mind" with "The Seeds of Time". Obviously, it's up to you.

Man this is gonna be a RIDE! The soundtrack is already giving me goosebumps when Tenma was spiraling. The show is so difficult to follow so dont worry about knowing the plot. Everything eventually comes together

Because people on Discord have started discussing the next Long Anime Show: New Poll: https://strawpoll.com/w4nWWdjrJnA Melkor wants The Legend of Galactic Heroes to win. 😂

the time has come for the peak of anime

Damn we lost Haikyuu fans, maybe next time.

Lola: 'God anime loves their Germany' Hmm I wonder why haha

Omg thank you for posting this early. I was planning to stay awake until 3 am to watch it lol.

Oh wow, posted early!! It'll be later tonight before I watch but I'm very excited to see the reactions of the girls and everyone else.

Everybody stay calm! STAY CALM!

You guys are hitting all of the bonafide classics and I'm here for it

Personally for me it is the greatest masterpiece ever made when it comes to Anime, I hope you enjoy this new journey.

See.. why would you girls drop the is while I’m still at work lol but thanks for the early drop <3 I will be watching this during my break.

I am so excited! I watched this on my own last year and made it to episode 30, I unfortunately became too busy and never had time to get back to it. Then I never wanted to pick it back up where I left off because it was way too good of a series for me to continue with a foggy memory, and when I found out yall would react to it I knew it’d be the best way to re-experience the series until I can continue on my own again!❤️ Edit: it’s actually been 2 years, oh my😭

An absolute masterpiece of a show, I’m confident it will become an all time favorite of yours. Very excited to rewatch along with you.

omfg

Well, i'm behind in every show so might as well start this one too and try to keep up 🤟🏻 life's not hard enough so i'm going to put myself through a show called monster which will probably get me more depressed 🤣
