I love Lola's righteous anger

After being set up as a character who wants to fight for Zaun in the beginning of s1 of the show, Vi’s arc has been a let down. Of course a character developing into the very thing they want to fight against is an interesting story. The irony is tragic. But it wasn’t properly developed. After feeling the depth of the injustice against her people in her adolescence, then getting UNJUSTLY thrown in a prison cell for 7 years, you’d expect her (and any normal person) to come out even more radicalized against Piltover. I think parts of her characterization were sacrificed in favour of the ship with Cait in s2. And in my opinion, that all goes back to them not having enough time to develop the story.

I don't see how Vi isn't fighting for Zaun here or where her approach really varies from Season 1

j
jweher · November 30, 2024

100% agree with Lola about Piltover/Zaun, the frustration is REAL. Especially when it brings up thoughts of real life situations we keep seeing play out. And I’m glad they’re seeing the signs of how rushed this season is gonna be due to how many storylines they tried to wrap up in 9 episodes. My most unpopular opinion is that the child, Isha, was an unnecessary addition, but curious to see how the girls react to it.

I think Lola is right on the money about Piltover

Some of the people in these comments have no decency, that are also demonstrating severe main character syndrome, it's not all about you.

PamRenea · November 29, 2024

I never valued the CaitVi relationship more than the sisters storyline. So Vi spouting all that your not my sister crap. She doesn't even believe that herself. And choosing a chick over your sister and ppl is crazy. That's why Ekko is my favorite. Man has a code

I
Isaac · November 29, 2024

The same sister that's killed many of Ekko's people. Vi's already tried to beg Jinx not to do this. What else is there?

alex otis · November 28, 2024

I also have to say. To see Lola react so negatively to vi and cait kissing broke my heart a little bit. I was so excited they finally kissed. Granted not the best of circumstances and everything goes to shit right after that. But geesh I wasn’t expecting that pained expression.

Regarding Vi's character....i think the reason she could rationalise using the Grey, was that it was used on the crime lords and their people. In episode 2 you can see that those are the only people they targeted. No civilians. So i'm guessing the only way she could rationalise it to herself, was that she was using it on bad people, so it was okay

I don't want to defend Caitlyn, but: https://www.reddit.com/r/arcane/comments/1h1hyoo/s1_spoilers_given_the_recent_caitlyn_discourse_i/

I'm not sure when you recorded this but if it was yesterday then I wish Milena a speedy recovery

They filmed it on the same day as Haikyuu 2x10, so I'd guess weekend, Nov 25th.

Vi is awful at recognising and managing her trauma. If you asked her she probably wouldn’t even think there’s anything wrong, yet she’s so lost that she rushes towards any port in a storm - she couldn’t come to terms with Powder and their relationship changing and hoped that wishing would make it work out, she ran head first at anything in the way, no matter who got hurt (“One dead kid?!”). She’s got nothing left except Caitlyn so she just convinces herself that Caitlyn can’t be acting wrongly because she isn’t a bad person so what they’re doing can’t be bad, it’s all just head in the sand self justification. In that kind of situation you can’t gain any perspective or start improving until you hit bottom. Jinx mentioned in the last episode how everyone who gets close to her dies, but the same can be said of Vi too. She loses everyone close to her one by one, so the fewer that are left the more desperately she clings to them. The show is consistently phenomenal at portraying how hurt people act.

lmao, these girls go through the effort deleting twitter even to avoid spoilers, only to have them right here on their patreon.. expect no less.

C
Cole · November 28, 2024

I don’t think anybody’s spoiled anything. They are just giving their opinions on the season with no context which doesn’t matter because Lm will make their own decisions on it. Half of the comments in here are either praising it or saying it’s horrible, but nobody has given reasons or spoilers on why.

B
Berezant · November 28, 2024

*Takes one look at everyone treating this place like their own personal discord server and vomiting spoilers everywhere* ... Yeah nah I'm out

MJ · November 28, 2024

I couldn’t believe Vi was justifying poisoning Zuans air even further. It baffled me, what were the writers thinking. Made me very disappointed in her. I don’t really like calling out characters I love but that’s just the truth.

J
James Long · November 28, 2024

Vi asked the council to attack Zaun in order to take out Silco in Episode 8 of Season 1. And then organized a rogue mission with Jayce and Enforcers that resulted in the death of a child. I don't get where Vi being this bastion of morality comes from or some kind of righteous champion for Zaun. Look at all of her actions throughout Season 1. Once she gets out of prison, her #1 priority is her sister. She goes after Silco specifically because of his influence on her sister. Vi does what she thinks she needs to do in order to accomplish her goal and her main method is very direct. She is punch first, ask questions later person. Vi is very flawed and that is why I like her as a character. If Vi could have used The Gray to have an advantage against Silco in Season 1, she would have done it.

Just finished the show yesterday and it's an absolute masterpiece. Waiting 6 more weeks for you to finish the show is going to be the death of me. At least I have the soundtrack to help me cope.

Milena/Lola DONT READ the super long comment made 27 mins before this one. It contains light spoilers

M
Mathias Lorétan · November 28, 2024

Honestly don't read any comment before you watch the rest, too many of them are not neutral towards the future episodes

C
Cole · November 28, 2024

I could not disagree more with people who say this season didn’t deliver everything you want and more. Almost every single episode from here till the end is a masterpiece in characters, themes, music and everything that arcane has been known for.

M
MJ · November 28, 2024

It has huge problems with execution tho. Many things were underdeveloped and abrupt. Some things felt extremely unsatisfying and rushed Not gonna say more I’ll wait until episode 9. It’s still a really good show, but left a lot to be desired.

O
Oodjee · November 28, 2024

I'm surprised you wanna binge the whole thing considering you were exhausted last time just from watching one episode :D

J
James Long · November 28, 2024

Really looking forward to you reacting to the rest of the season. I just think it is so top tier.

N
Nyeisha Melvina Clark · November 28, 2024

Now that I have seen the entire Season I can confidently say, that while I still enjoyed the show, I personally was left dissatisfied, but I feel like these 3 episodes flowed together really well and really had me on the edge of my seat. This episode in particular was really good to me, although Vi and Caitlyn becoming Police Brutality Patties was NOT on my 2024 Bingo Card but here we are, them using the Grey to flood the streets and choke out the people of Zaun was horrific and honestly there’s no redeeming that, it was at this point where I realized that although Cait’s story is so realistic, I didn’t like her and don’t think I ever will again. But Vi was the character I was the most disappointed in, I just couldn’t believe she would be a part of something like that, and her pitiful “We were clearing the streets” excuse was just VERY lazy writing to me. I don’t know I guess I just needed to see Vi struggle more with a decision like this, instead of just blindly going along with whatever Cait wanted to do. Ambessa playing on Cait and the rest of Piltovers racism to start the war, just so she can get her hands on Hextech for her own selfish reasons is top tier evil, and Mel literally couldn’t have disappeared at a worst time, lol. I literally wasn’t breathing throughout the fight and I liked how the show didn’t wait to let Vi and Jinx see each other, even though it was heartbreaking. There’s so much more I want to say but again this is already and Essay so I’ll stop now.

E
Eren Yeager · November 28, 2024

DUDE DONT SPOIL SHIT DELETE THIS COMMENT. SAYING YOU WERE DISSATISFIED WITH THE SEASON AND EXPLAINING WHY WHEN THEY ONLY HAVE SEEN THREE EPISODES?!!!! WHAT ARE YOU DOING LET THEM FINISH WATCHING FIRST

E
Eren Yeager · November 28, 2024

My understanding was that they were only using the grey like tear gas. Only releasing it in the areas they were looking for Jinx to stop others from dying in the crossfire

S
Serhiy Yaniuk · November 28, 2024

They did not gas the underground. They were using ventilation system to direct the Grey to the areas/buildings they were attacking (chembaron hideouts, shimmer production facilities etc). So it's not like they've just poisoned the entirety of Zaun. They were strategic with it's use.

H
HenryM · November 28, 2024

Well it doesn't really matter if they poisoned few or many, they're still using that ventilation system as a weapon, the complete opposite goal of Cait's mother. I actually really liked the juxtaposition of 'the people of Zaun deserve to breathe' with the strike team's actions

S
SwampFox95 · November 28, 2024

There are definitely things to appreciate, but I was let down by these three episodes, personally. I didn’t think it made sense for Vi to use such drastic measures on her own city, and Sevika and Jinx working together could only happen if somehow no one knows how Silco died. Edited: to clarify and hopefully not bring down anyone else’s experience.

M
Mathias Lorétan · November 28, 2024

Can people just stop messing with their expectations?? How selfish are you to chose this place to vent your frustrations

Z
Z3P · November 28, 2024

Also, as you've said you didn't get the time to rewatch S1 first: the character you've been seeing at the end of each episode is Singed, the doctor from the first season. The one who was originally with Silco (as early as the end of ep1) who was working on shimmer, the one who saved Jinx after her fight with Ekko (and gave her shimmer), and the one who Viktor eventually went to talk to (he was Viktor's mentor as a child). In the final scene of the first episode, we see him gassing some twin wolves, in the second episode we see a large twin heart beating, and the end of this third episode seems to show the results of whatever experiment he's been up to.

a
ashton · November 28, 2024

About the episode, I really like Cait, but in this situation it's impossible for me to be on her side. Revenge for the mother stops being personal when she was literally willing to take the risk of killing a child for it. If her feelings are valid then every citizen of Zaun has the right to burn the entire Piltover for everything they went through.

Z
Z3P · November 28, 2024

I think you guys figured it by the end but just in case: The beginning music video is Caitlyn using her Kirraman key to unlock information on using the ventilation system that keeps The Grey (mining/factory smog) out of Zaun. Caitlyn's mother likely came up with it, with the implication that Caitlyn is going against her mother's life's work under the guise of avenging her. "The people of the Underground deserve to breathe." During the MV, the remaining 2 chembarons were taken out by Cait's squad, so as of the start of this episode, Zaun is completely without leaders.

a
ashton · November 28, 2024

Lola talking about her Twitter being about Serbian and American politics reminded me of a friend who lived in Belgrade for 4 years and then in Romania, she was shocked by the level of political conflict there, "the conflicts in America don't come close to the Balkans" my Twitter is also basically politics and sometimes I would prefer to stay in the dark when I see certain news lol

R
Robert Dirk H. · November 28, 2024

American politics is like a TV show full of chaos and lunatics attacking each other. You can't look away. It's so stupid what's happening in the USA.

C
Cole · November 28, 2024

I don’t think Vi even thought there was a possibility Caitlyn could miss. I think she thought if she stepped aside Caitlyn would shoot jinx and the kid would be hugging jinx dead body traumatizing it just like they were, and I don’t think she was going to let Caitlyn do that to the child. I don’t think the child’s life was really in question for anybody there.

B
BigJo H · November 28, 2024

I mean even if Caitlyn didn't miss and hit Jinx, that is a Hextech weapon the bullet can go through Jinx and Isha

C
Cole · November 28, 2024

In vi, Caitlyn, and loris defence. Whatever they did is a lot better than the full invasion they prevented the council from doing. I also forgot all about that because I could not believe vi and jinx were actually trying to kill each other.

Arcane’s ability to create such compelling and emotional characters with such a short amount of time is more impressive than its animation imo.
