Shogun Episode 9 Reaction

Y’all should react to “Interview With The Vampire” tv show. It’s one of the best shows out right now and I feel like nobody is talking about it.
yes they would love it
"Shinobi" is just another word for ninja. The people trying to kidnap Lady Mariko weren't assassins but ninjas, although the real ones are not as they are usually depicted by the media. They did assassinate people on occasion, but they were primarily spies, infiltrators, and experts in sabotage, guerrilla warfare, information gathering, etc..
Anna Sawai deserves an award for her portrayal of Lady Mariko. She was awesome. She was not the only one; Fumi Nikaido as Lady Ochiba was also great. I hope that at least Hiroyuki Sanada and the two of them win Emmy awards.
I have to agree with Milena on the matter of her son. I mean it's not just that we're looking at this from different moral values and ages. Ochiba also tells her that her own purpose right now is to protect her son and straight up asked Mariko, how is she protecting her son by ending her life. It's one of the things that i didn't like in Mariko's character. I can understand her, but i don't like the fact that her shame and wish for death never subsided in favor of her son. John's line "Hell is no place i haven't already known. Let it from your mind" is probably among my favorite in the show. Especially in that situation and what it means for both characters.
Get you a man that's willing to behead you with a katana 😍
Also, I don't think Mariko accounted for this, but I think Ochiba (hopefully you can remember her name by the final episode lmao) will be very angry about what Ishido did here, her actions in the next episode will be interesting.
There's no way Ishido wanted her to die, what happened here is no different than just letting her kill herself, the shinobi weren't trying to kill her, they were trying to take her away. Mariko understood what Ishido wanted and did the only thing that would keep everyone else safe and effectively end the attack. You can also see that they saw the mother of the newborn and intentionally ignored her, showing you that they were never supposed to get killed.
Ishido letting Mariko leave would also be a victory for Toranaga. You saw everyone else wanted to leave once Mariko had the permit. Toranaga created a win win situation for himself where if Ishido killed or allowed Mariko to commit suicide lords would rebel and if he let her go then he would lose all his hostages. If it wasn't for Yabushige's sudden and unexpected betrayal I think maybe Mariko could have lived her life with new meaning now that she helped carry out her fathers duty.
Toranaga always bets on the odds. And he knew that the situation that was created would more than likely lead to her death. So he bet on that true win. If by some miracle she got out and went back to Toranaga it would have been a slight incremental win. He wouldn't have preferred it if he'd been given the choice.
