Guest Series #11 - Southpaw Dynamics in MMA
The always lovely Dan Tom joined me for a brief recap of Petr Yan vs Merab Dvalishvili and to discuss the increasingly important topic of southpaws in MMA. We talk why fighting southpaws is difficult, the common pitfalls orthodox fighters fall into, our favorite southpaws in MMA, and much more.

Ironically i remember in your episode with the other Dan you said “I don’t actually think the matchup with Merab is unwinnable” and ever since I’ve been thinking well actually he has a point it could be an EdwardsUsman III esque performance and I banked on this happening really because I seen Yan being more strategically consistent imo since his return in 2024 along with his more active neutral space jab. I was so confident in him I just knew idk man I had a feeling he’d adjust accordingly and I’m so happy it was true
Also obv he knows how to defend takedowns it’s Petr Yan I wasn’t ever worried about that. I also forgot to say he stopped using his high guard as much especially against figgy which also led me to believe okay this guy doesn’t actually seem to have his hands glued to his face anymore. Everything was just leading me to picking Yan by dec
Let's go! Also, the Dan Tom victory tour continues
