Studio Relocation ππ¨
Hi all,
Just a heads-up that development on Honcho will be slower than usual while we relocate the studio. As this is an international move, it will take a few weeks for us to get settled before the project can get back up to full speed.
Without access to funding, and still being months away from a Steam EA release, this move is part of a broader financial recalibration. The move, along with how we approach making games, will hopefully mean that following Honcho's release, we'll be able to continue making games.
The reality is that the current market has become increasingly hostile to independent studios trying to make something genuinely original. AI-driven hardware shortages, social media algos shaping which games get visibility, and wider economic strains mean the type of games we make currently aren't a viable way to earn a living.
We need to adapt. That means cutting costs where we can, and over time rethinking the type of games we make.
It is important to understand that this change won't affect how I develop and approach Honcho. Honcho will remain a systems heavy, deeply immersive simulation - filled with buckets of personality, detail and care. I love making these types of games and I'm not willing to compromise on what makes Honcho so special to all of us playing.
The challenge is that games like these can be difficult to get noticed, difficult to secure funding for, and increasingly difficult to justify the time and expense of making in the current market.
Whilst an initial slowdown on development isn't ideal, I believe this is the best course of action for the future of Honcho and the studio beyond that.
Thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding. It is always incredibly humbling to know people care about Honcho as much as I do.
I look forward to getting settled and resuming full-time development as soon as possible. There is a lot yet to be added. π§

Dear Greg and team, I wish you all the best and great success with this project and future ones! I really want to offer my full support. Since I first saw a video of your game on YouTube, Iβve been following every single update and waiting anxiously for the release. Apologies for any translation errors, as Iβm using Google Translate. As we say here in my country: "tamo junto!"(we're in this together!)
