As a Brit can you explain how American voters are still able to vote for Nikki Haley? How is she a choice on the ballot if she's withdrawn?
In the US, we have what's called "a write in candidate." The voter actually writes the name of the person of their choice on the ballot when they cast it at the polls. Usually, it's a form of protest, as their choice of candidate is not on the ballot, for various reasons. If enough voters do a write in, it sends a message to the winning candidate and party. I don't know how it's presented on the ballot as I've never done it. This year I may find out, as our choices are both deeply flawed.
