Not that it would get you to the sun but could a spaceship be launched perpendicular to the (approximate) plane of the solar system?
Well, OK. I was just telling Mom about this general idea (that killing your orbital velocity so that you can hit the sun is way hard) last week at an IHOP. And the only reason I know is that when I tried it in KSP I wound up in a helio orbit and outta fuel. x3
