New Video! Guitar Strings Don't Vibrate The Way You Think
Hi Everyone,
This was a fun one.
In our new video, we explore the string movement of musical instruments, and how their actual motion is different to what you expect... like completely different.
It's strange because we are all taught at school about harmonics and how waves propagate on a fixed string - but we don't really get taught the actual resulting motion of guitar strings, piano strings, violin strings etc.
Destin from Smarter Every Day very kindly sent Henry his high speed camera, so he managed to get some awesome slo-mo demonstrations packed into this video.
I also managed to digitally recreate the string movement by simply adding the harmonics in Python, with some help from this great article by Aatish: https://aatishb.com/stringmath/
If you play a string instrument I reckon you will love this video - and if you don't, please send it to all your musical friends!
