LMU Just go faster with these settings

This small article explains my ideal settings for beginner races in LMU and provides an add-on for those who recently bought LMU setup packs in the store.

Traction Control (TC) Settings

Lower TC settings beat higher ones for raw pace. When I race in LMU’s fixed series, I go for 7-1-3 or 7-1-5 setups. Why?

  • TC: 7 – This controls how quickly traction control (TC) intervenes. Lower values make slow corner exits unforgiving, while higher values slow you down too much.

  • TC Cut: 1 – I want TC to cut for the shortest time possible when it intervenes.

  • TC Slip: 3 – This determines how much TC interferes when the car has a certain yaw moment or slip angle. If the rear steps out, TC might intervene based on yaw angle increase at corner exit.

For rain conditions, I set TC Slip to 6, but I’m still refining this and will update when I find the optimal setting.

Throttle Input & Corner Exits

In LMU, you need to think ahead in slow corners and avoid hammering the throttle. If you do, you'll just spin out. Max TC settings let you get away with it, but they kill lap time.

Brake Bias Rule of Thumb

  • Lower brake bias is faster—a 45-55 setting is quicker than 51-49.

  • If you bought a setup from me, have the brake bias slider ready to adjust in every setup.

  • Finding the right bias:

    • In fast corners where you brake and steer simultaneously, if the car snap oversteers, increase brake bias (e.g., from 45-55 to 48-52).

    • If the car understeers, lower brake bias to improve rotation under braking.

Braking Performance & Trail Braking

Forget the old-school "brake at 70% pedal force" approach—it hurts performance. Instead, use a gradual braking release:

  • 100% braking from 250 km/h → 200 km/h

  • 80% from 200 → 180

  • 60% from 180 → 160

If your wheel shakes, ABS is active. To set faster lap times, I’ve found that being more precise with the brake pedal and trail braking drops my delta significantly.

For Setup Pack Buyers

  • Front Packers: For safety, increase them by 0.5 cm if your car oversteers on entry, especially crucial for mid-engine cars.

  • Rear Packers: If your car won’t rotate on throttle out of corners, increase the rear packers by 0.5 cm at a time.

I'm looking for feedback for the setup packs to improve them, could you do me a favour and comment below this article how you like them or how they can improve

Cheers,

Arnout

Will try the rear packers to gain some rotation on throttle, this is an area in the McLaren I struggle with sometimes… like last turn at Sebring… I am liking the McLaren setups by the way… have a great feeling with them

These tips are good guides for gaining stability, and I usually run with ABS at 1, or none. Thanks for all your efforts to the SIM community.

Again very well and precisely explained. However, for me a braking force of 75-78% on the GTE without ABS is much better to drive without immediately getting a locked tyre.
