Addressing Something Important.
Hi everyone,
I hope you all are having a great weekend/week so far! I told myself I wouldn't address this unless it started to either progress, become repetitive, or until I become super annoyed. And all three have happened. The pattern has been especially clearer, since the last update.
The issue of reading...and entitlement.
I understand mods are fun. But first, reading is ABSOLUTELY essential when it comes to using them, whether mines or any other creators. I promise you guys, I do not write those instructions/posts for fun. They are actually meant to be read and followed. There have been countless times where persons claim to have issues or said my mods were broken and of course, it was because they did not read/follow the instructions.
Even with regular announcement posts I make, I have persons asking about things that I just said in the post above...
Now, does that mean my mods can't ever have issues? Obviously, not. But it does mean, a good start is reading first.
Thoroughly...Please.
My next point is about entitlement....whew.
For me, half of the time complaints/entitlement comes from:
• the same folks who do not in fact read lol.
• folks who don't know what they're doing (i.e. messy mod folders, first time mod users.)
• or just folks doing the most.
Other times its persons thinking I'm at my computer modding 24/7. I know entitlement comes with the territory, but understand this...there are real people with a life and limited time behind these screens.
When an update comes out, my first priority is ensuring the mods are tested and see if anything needs updating. And I get to this as soon as I can.
But let this also be clear...Even if I was able to be behind my screen 24/7, I do not owe anyone immediate action. I try to provide it when I can, but it's not owed.
I don't think persons understand it takes a lot of effort and time to test, update and make sure things are running smoothly (in a game whose engine is old and basically holding itself with duct tape might I add).
But my point stands. Give grace.
This post doesn't apply to everyone of course, but I wanted to address this because I keep seeing the same thing happening with myself, and even other modders. Those who actually read and have real issues get drowned out, and that's not fair.
I won't speak for everyone, but most modders are doing this because we still love the game and want to enhance the experience for you all.
So, read before you ask. (My God, please.) Be patient. Be kind. Respect boundaries. Practice proper mod management (fix your mods folder before crying about a broken game) Let's look out for each other guys.
I appreciate you all, we'll talk soon. 🤍

P.S. If you’re using Better Exceptions (which is super helpful. TwistedMexi is amazing), please know that not every mod listed is automatically broken. BE is a great guide but it’s not a final verdict. Mods can get flagged for various reasons, even if they're fine. Still feel free to alert creators, but don't hound them.

Hey I hope you see this. I’m having a hard time getting the doctors pie and sitting in classroom listening to lectures on the med school mod. How do I get this to work? I love your work thanks for all you do.
So thankful for your mods and couldn't have said it better! Take all the time you need! Life happens; people are busy with things other than modding the sims. I wish others would understand that!
Thank you for all that you do! I'm sorry for all the entitled people. I imagine it can be discouraging to want to continue modding but please know that you are appreciated and as someone who utilizes mods, it's important for us to understand the consequences that come with it like waiting for updates or needing to manually update our folders. Please don't burn yourself out for people who feel entitled to your time and efforts, especially since we don't know a thing about modding.
also just want to add a little appreciation for adding a mod update list. you couldn't have made this any easier for the users and I just wanted to acknowledge that. thank you so much!
i opened sims4studio one time to "easily" (according to the mod creator) edit a recolor and BOY was it hard. i gave up almost immediately (and i learned html 13 years ago) Some ppl take this stuff for granted WAY too much. I couldn't imagine doing all the cool things you do with mods, ESPECIALLY full-time.
As much as it can be frustrating and time-consuming as a mod user to maintain installed mods and troubleshoot them, I can only imagine it must be ten times more for mod creators <3 I'd like to be playing with your mods in my game for a long time, and that means that it needs to be sustainable and fulfilling for you - as the person behind it all - first and foremost. I hope that more people in the community start to "get" that too. I'm immensely thankful for the time, skills, and love that you put into your mods, and the genorosity of sharing them with all of us. Please know that there's a lot of us who *want* you to put rest before updates
Entitlement runs rapid in the Sims community. I'm in a lot of Sims facebook groups and ALWAYS see people crying and complaining when a modder doesn't release a update in five seconds! and most of the time these are people who don't have any type of memberships but still expect the modder to update as if they don't have a life outside of modding! I would never be able to handle that and would block every person that annoys me lol.
I'm sorry you have to take time which is limited and precious to each of us as a human to address lack of common sense., manners (lack of), and human decency and resect. Thank you for all the time and creativity you choose to share with the Sims 4 community. I apologize for those who refuse to see how their behavior impacts others. Best wishes. Trish
clock it
Agree! Agree! Agree!
SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE FOLKS IN THE BACK! I'm annoyed with them too.
YOU CONTINUE TO KEEP UP THE AMAZING WORK!! IM sorry that you even have to address this. its really said that some people are lazy in reading lol.
We love you, Elle<3 ppl need to get a grip, not blame modders, and finally see that it's EA's fault. im so sorry that ppl are doing this to you :/
im so sorry you have to even say this! I know everyone is super frustrated with broken mods this week (im trying to fix my game as we speak) but I am so grateful to people who create amazing things to make my game better. Please don't let it get you down but I'm glad you felt emboldened enough to say your peace!! Just know I love all that you do and I enjoy them so much in my game! Much Love :)
you are certainly not the only modder i've seen dealing with entitlement in this week ALONE. this is so ridiculous over a game that you are spending your time to make better for everyone.
I have ZERO patience for the "Why isn't my game working?!" Crowd. I used to regularly explain in the Reddit Sims 4 subs, that modding your game isn't a one-and-done process, and if a player is going to use mods... that player better have the desire and discipline to understand what, exactly that means. You have to be willing to understand what the mod does, how it's going to interact with your other mods, and you have to be willing to take the TIME after a patch or release to search out what mods broke, which ones are ok, and which ones updated. I also don't have the desire to explain to people that you need to organize your mods, or that you sometimes have to look into the (hopefully) unzipped folders and drop stuff that isn't needed or choosing only ONE package if that's necessary. Every now and then, I think I should use this hard-won modding knowledge that dates back to the Sims 1 to help, but then I see someone posting a screenshot and asking what [This thing] is because it came in a download ("Maybe??!! LOL!"). Or someone is hysterical because there was a patch and their screen looks like every other image of a post-patch, scrambled UI and they can't logically apply that to their own issues. After a patch, on a good day, it might take me a good 8 hours to clean up and repair my mods folder (and I play offline for the first 5 days because creators don't owe me an immediate update). And I refuse to get this latest patch because of all the additional havoc it's caused for people. But I no longer have it in me to type out for the 17 billionth time, "It's your mods. You need to 50/50, or visit Scarlet's List or use Lumpinou's ModHound." But I *ALWAYS* have time to step up for creators when folks get demanding. You owe none of us ANYTHING, but I appreciate your time, talents, and graciousness -- and your mods, definitely your mods.
I'm new to playing with mods, so reading instructions has helped me a lot in understanding how they work, how they can be organized, and how I can mix and match different mods for a funner gameplay. I really appreciate your efforts in updating your mods. If it takes time to test and figure out issues to make a better version of your mods. Then by all means take your time. I will always prefer quality mods over anything else. <3
Shame it has to be said. Reading is FUNdamental. But I'm a big believer in schadenfreude. If they refuse to follow instructions, so be it. If they are confused, that's one thing but read the directions! Remember in school when the teacher reminded y'all to read and follow all directions. They were the ones who whines about not putting a 😊 in the header.
THIS!!
Reading, making things easier since the beginning of written words!
I love the sims community, I have been playing sims since it 1st released in 2000. Don't let a small group of entitled ungrateful players ruin it for you... I'm always grateful the modders and cc creators exist!
It's wild to me that people would choose not to read then complain about something that is clearly stated and explained.
Sadly, people that refuse to read might ignore this post because it's just "a bunch of words." I don't know why people are like that.
Offline mode should be the move for many simmers that have mods they cant play without. Im totally fine with staying in offline mode until you + other creators finish updating. Thank you for making this game enjoyable! Please take all the time you need ❤️
Same here. I just play offline and download the updates until they're all done.
I absolutely appreciate your work. You're amazing. Thanks for taking your own time out for us.
Thank you for your constant patience and work Elle, I know this is getting hard on you content creators and I really enjoy seeing you and others stating your bondaries on this because this is getting really out of hand. Take care and take your time so it's still fun and enjoyable for you too ! 💖
I'm sorry you and all the other modders have to deal with such entitlement. Thank you for your work and your patience.
valid point, honestly just download mod and be grateful the community does most of it for free, and if it's not, just uninstall, if you love the mod, then wait, modders have lives too and a few days without playing the game is not gonna kill anyone
I'm so sorry you're feeling pressured. Thank you for your wonderful mods and I hope you feel the love and appreciation from the comments <3 I've noticed this too since getting back into the game and spending a lot of time learning about mods, managing my mods, and protecting my game from updates. Many players are kids or people who aren't really tech-literate and since EA relies so much on the modding community to even make the game playable, you and other modders are stuck being full-stack engineers, sales, marketing, and customer support for free. There's a lack of reading comprehension skills combined with frustrated people who've spent hundreds of dollars on a game that breaks constantly. You're screen overrides are one of my favorite mods, and your efforts are so appreciated! Thank you for updating them so quickly <3
I have noticed this constant abuse to modders for a while and I find it really disgusting. I applaud you for making an official statement against it. I notice that some Sims 4 players treat modders like servants rather than being grateful for their hard work and dedication.
I adore you and respect you so so much and to this, this, this, it is EVERYTHING and more! I'm sure every modder is sitting back (for a mere second bc Lord knows that's all the time y'all get these days) and clapping their hands at your message. You did it with so much Grace and poise. Hugs my dear
Modders are people who have otherworldly non-pixel responsibilities outside of their contribution to the game
We really appreciate you and all the modders that help make this game worth playing. The entitlement in the Sims community is really off putting and sadly they are the loudest voices. Just know that most of us aren't like that, and we are so appreciative!
Ignore and block the unnecessary complainers 🙏🏾 there are so many ways for beginners to get help if people take the time to look online. And no one is entitled to anything. If you decided to never update another mod again that would be your decision to make. Of course we hope you don’t. But you owe no one permanent immediate help. There are many of us who appreciate all the work modding takes and genuinely are grateful for what you do. So thank you 🙌🏾🙏🏾
I really appreciate you and all the hard work that you put in your mods. Thank you. My golden rule when EA push out an update is to go offline and DO NOT update. I can wait until the modders get a chance to iron out everything. Patient & kindness go a long way. Once again, thank you again.
I %100 agree with you. At work I constantly have to deal with people who did not follow directions or listen to the instructions the first time. It takes so much out of you. I love your mods and keep on doing what you are doing.
entitlement also comes from people updating their game as soon as it drops and wondering why all their shit is broken. i feel for you and all the other modders that have to deal with people like this
I’m still playing in offline mode 😂
I just want to encourage you to take a breath, and know that your contributions to the game are SUPER appreciated! I am sorry you are going through this, I know that just the other day I was thinking that my sims could possibly do with one of your online therapy Mods, before someone "Offs" the other. :) (sorry for being so Corny, just trying to make you smile). Keep it SIMple, and keep up the Good Work! Dag Dag.
more proof that there is an illiteracy epidemic nationwide. honestly some people purposely act obtuse and expect people who create/update mods to cater to them constantly. and it's every time EA updates the game too like why can't people just be patient?? we appreciate you and all the other hardworking modders 🤍
Well said, thank you
i also saw people that fully rely on better exceptions and ONLY remove mods when BE catches a excpection 😭 scarlets mod list checker is the best way to keep the mod folder organized and everyone should know about this, its easy to set up and it tracks your mods and you can see in the different tabs at one glance if something is broken or not
Well said.
I believe all mods creator is trying all their best to update all mods whenever patch day hit. And you already doing your best for update us process of the broken mods, this time EA update patch really make many of us shocked not only mod creators. I do understand you need times to fix and try to make sure all mods will be perfect for players, so please take your time and Appreciate all your hard work.
Thank you for all that you do! Seriously.
*Kris Jenner voice* You're doing amazing, sweetie!
What do people not understand about the concepts of mods and updates? It’s not like you as the mod creator knows what’s going to happen when the sims update their game? And then it takes time to make the new version of the game and the mod compatible! I promise Elle the next time someone feels entitled enough to talk crazy to you about your mods tell them to do it! Like ain’t nobody bout to talk to my Elle crazy! THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU DO AND TAKE AS MUCH TIME AS YOU NEED! WE LOVE YOU ELLE!!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
All of this, not to mention the work is free. Even if someone paid for early access, that’s more to support you and what you do, you’re doing mostly free work and truly owe no one nothing. Thank you so much for all your wonderful mods, they’re very appreciated <3
Thank you for saying this! I am blown away by people who comment "when are you updating???" or anything adjacent to that. Creators sharing their mods with the community is a privilege. That's your time, your effort, your work. No one is owed any of that. People have lives, jobs, families - and it's summer, people go on holiday. I'm sure you would all rather not have to deal with EA updates every other month, so please know that creators and modders continuing to put aside time to update is very much appreciated by the majority of us.
Appreciate everything you and many other modders do. <3
THIS. MY GOD THIS. I will always appreciate the work modders do and stand by this until the end of time! You’re 1000000% valued and thanks for everything 🤍🤍
Sincerely, Thank you for all you do and your amazing mods. It saddens me to hear people feel they can demand or expect you to stop your life immediately. Im sorry you deal with the assumed entitlement of people. Take your time, your mod updates are worth the wait and we can wait. Personally, the sims is so broken, if they can still play the game...they can wait for your update
Completely agree with you! I totally understand and feel your pain, you're not alone ❤️
appreciate all the magic and hard work you put into your mods. i hate that modders have to post these kinds of things with every big update when you're the ones breathing life into this game. you're valued and we appreciate you!
THIS! All of this. Thank you for all you do, continue to do, and say. You are so appreciated
Well said…. People be losing their minds. I had to let a lot of mods go because of this update but life goes on! It’s not that deep! Lol 🤷🏾♀️ Thank you for all you do! ❤️
Whew chile, you said it so respectfully and I hate that people do not think about the hard work you and others put in after updates. I applaud you 10000 times!! For each complaint I see about mods not working, I would refer them to your post👊🏽
I hate that modders have to keep posting things like this. It should be known that no one is entitled to your time. I absolutely love what you do and your dedication to it. Please don't allow anyone to get you down. You're valued and we do appreciate you.
I don't normally comment, but I'm so glad you're saying this. Mods are a privilege for the community not a right, and we honestly need to do a better job of reading instructions. Anytime I have mod issues it's really because I fail to read the instructions both on a modders patreon or instructions in the zip file. Also, thank you for your amazing mods because they're so fun to have in my game.
What grinds my gears is that so many amazing modders keep leaving due to the endless harassment by members of the Sims community. You guys don't deserve this. Thank you for taking the time to make our experience more wonderful in our game play.
Thank you so MUCH for saying this! I say all the time to us “regulars” that We are not ENTITLED to ANY MODS because we are NOT the ones creating them! People take such OFFENSE to me saying that! I get so much backlash but I support ALL MODDERS because MOST of ya’ll are regular people with families, kids, sometimes full time jobs and going through your only things daily. How DARE we “regulars” request immediate action when most of you guys are a one person organization with no help. We have to have patience. Thank you again & take ALLLLLL the time you need. Us LOYAL subscribers WILL ALWAYS support you!!💝💕💝
You really said reading is fundamental & comprehension is essential lmaoooo. I’m here for it, you can only take so much. Let ‘em know. Thanks for all your hard work & wonderful mods.
Very well sais. Unfortunately most people who don't bother to read instructions aren't going to read that well written message 🥲
Thank you for saying this. Also, I am very vigilant with the mods after an update. This will add on to what you stated...I added mods that cleared, opened my game, had BE say that there were issues with multiple mods (one being mccc). I found out one of the mods was marked broken after I went in my game...and it wasn't any of the mods BE listed. So a mod can definitely trigger an exception for mods it doesn't even apply to as well
I appreciate everything you've been doing for us❤️😭
We love you Elle. Thank you so much for all the hard work you put into making our games not suck lol💛💛
This was a great post and a thoughtful way to address the issues going on right now. xx
👏
