I drew these almost two years ago just to make sure I had the look right. For those wondering, Asmodea has always been written as a trans character from their first appearance in I believe 2011. I think it's clear in hindsight, but obviously for plot reasons it wasn't explicitly stated until now.
I'm a big fan of patience in storytelling, it's better to sit on a big reveal for a decade if you think it's going to pay off right. I didn't anticipate this development being so personal back in 2011, but hey that's life.

It's honestly pretty great, having not kept up with this comic for about 5 years (during which I realised I'm trans and came out as non-binary), to come back to it and re-read it and realise why it spoke to me so much when I first found it, and still does ^_^ I didn't actually twig that Asmodea is trans but then I'm pretty oblivious and it's a really great reveal :D Kim on the other hand... so many relatable non-binary/non-human feelings 😅. If anything, the biggest surprise to me is that the first character revealed to be trans isn't her :P
Plus... as a nonbinary person who hid out in the closet to survive high school in the '70s, I am in awe of how you just unpacked the internal conflicts of passing for straight. AND tied them back in to a narrative underpinning of the universal wavefunction. It IS funny how obvious these things are in hindsight! Or is that side-sight? Wisdom leaking across from an alternate self?
Yep... that's life! Which is the force that balances entropy across time... Patience is also a virtue as a reader - watching you toss so many narrative balls in the air and then catch them on the rebound has been a blessing. And as a longtime business copywriter new to fantasy/sf storytelling, I've been watching and learning.
