Upcoming Switch to Monthly billing - Announcement

Hello All!

This November Patreon will be discontinuing the Per Creation billing method. Some of you may remember mentions of this in the past, or have been hearing about it from other Patreon creators.

What does this mean for FA and for you?

At the end of next month (week of 26th October) Forgotten Adventures Patreon will be switching over to monthly subscription billing. Current tiers, both active and retired, will be converted to subscription billing.

•  Existing patrons will experience no changes in what content they receive or how much they pay each month! You will continue to pay the same amount you have currently been paying on average over the last 4 months.

• For example, if you are currently supporting us at the Adventurer tier, capped to 3 creations per month, you have been paying $21, and will continue to do so.

• So long as you stay on your tier through the switch, nothing will change for you!

However...

as the switch dramatically changes how tiers work, we will be retiring all current tiers after the switch and making new tiers to fit the new billing model. We will not be changing how much content we release each month.

We were not at all planning on changing our prices or restructuring our tiers before Patreon made the decision to retire the Per Creation billing model, and we would not make this change if the billing switch didn’t require it. We have spent a lot of time trying to figure out new pricing and structures that stay true to our values of affordability, but still allow us to continue this work. As it stands this is going to be a rough transition for us and we can only mitigate the issue so much.

We have stuck with the Per Creation billing method for so long because it allows our patrons to support us in a way where we could keep prices very low, and people who were able to support us for more could easily do so. Subscription billing breaks most of the tools we had to make that business model work. We are doing our best to adapt. We thank you for sticking with us through all of this.

New Tiers

Because we are changing to a monthly subscription billing model, we need to change our tiers and tier prices. Starting after the switch, new visitors to the Patreon will see the following new tiers and monthly prices:

•  $8/mo Premium Tier: Premium Backlog + Premium Library updates, and access to Premium cloud libraries in FA Nexus, FA Studio* & Live Gallery**

•  $15/mo Pro Tier: Premium tier rewards, Dungeondraft integration, FA Nexus pro tools, FA Studio sync, FA Token Maker, and Clip Studio Paint token files

Possible Tech Issues

While we hope that the transition goes without any technical errors, we have heard from some fellow creators that they experienced issues on Patreon’s end during the switch. If this happens to us, we will let you know right away and keep you updated while it is resolved. We will not have any control over the technical side of the switch, so we ask that if something goes awry you please be patient with us and Patreon as they resolve it.

Other News

In other news, we have a few quality-of-life things that are close to being done that we wanted to share with you! These should all be rolling out shortly after the billing switch, so they felt appropriate to share here.

New Website & **Live Gallery!

The website is getting a much-needed upgrade. It should be both prettier, and more functional. For those of you missing the live gallery, the new website will have a fix for that.

*FA Studio (pCloud Replacement & More!)

We’ve been busy working on FA Studio, a free desktop app to make browsing and managing our asset and token libraries easier.

You’ll be able to download full libraries (free/premium) to your computer, search through them with visual previews, and drag the assets into the creative tools you already use, even when you’re offline. Pre-Downloading is optional, you can also use our cloud libraries and download individual assets as you need them.

For Pro supporters, Studio will take over from pCloud, where new invites have been broken for some time, to keep your selected local libraries automatically up to date with our latest releases.

We’re getting ready for internal testing, and we’ll share more as we get closer to a public release!

WIP Preview:

Token Maker Free Preview!

Now that we are mostly done with the first phase of the Token Maker features, we are working on getting a free preview version up and running so that anyone can try it out with a limited selection of assets to see how it works.

FA Nexus v0.6! 

We’ve also been busy working on the next major update to FA Nexus, our Foundry VTT module! Building on v0.5.3, v0.6 brings a rebuilt Building Editor with easier room construction, individual room floor textures, more flexible curved walls, and new options like seamless secret doors.

But that’s not all! New Scene Groups will let you organize and transform whole structures or decorated areas together, including their walls, lights, and sounds. And yes, you’ll be able to save and re-use these as ‘Prefabs’.

It’s still in development and testing, with a big focus on making everyday mapmaking smoother and more reliable, these are just some of the highlights but there are of course plenty of fixes and improvements too. We’ll share more previews as we get closer to release!
