Twine Port: Progress Update

As many of you know, due to the "heinous" nature of fans in our discord talking as if it were a Gears of War lobby chat, we have been canceled by the publisher and promoted to Customer. As such, we cannot publish the game in the ChoiceScript engine and I have been forced to transfer the game to their open source competitor, Twine.

It's been interesting, to say the least.

I've been staying hush hush about the whole ordeal due to uncertainty of progress.

To get things working, I would have to create a robust bugtester, create a game simulator to make sure the passages go where they should, spend hundreds on an LLC for legal protections, create a javascript framework to make the game work the way I need it to work in an entirely new engine, create a custom UI that works in mobile, and find new ways to handle every single loop code in the game. This means rewiring how the Technique system works, how losing health works, how equipping items works, etc.

It's a monumental amount of work.

All of it was finished 5 weeks ago.

The next stage is to to translate 1,000,000 words (counting code) to the new engine, and currently I have finished 430,000 words which covers chapter 1-5 and half of chapter 6.

I don't know how, and I don't know why, but somehow, by the grace of God, black coffee, and possibly autism, we are ahead of schedule.

My goal is to release the Twine port prototype on Halloween and have it cover up to Chapter 6. The stretch goal is to dip into Chapter 7 up to accessing the Nanhou hub. Anyone curious can give it a go and report any bugs (likely spacing issues, which Twine handles differently). Once we have chapter 6 polished up I will release chapter 7 and 8 before the end of the year and return to writing new chapters as a fully independent studio.
