Recoil, The Weirdest Song I Ever Wrote (Demo Version)

Happy Almost August Anomalies!

Heat season is in full effect, and I am so grateful for air conditioners, fans, ice-cold beverages, and cold showers.... Aww, hell nah. I cannot do a cold shower if my life depended on it. I'm that person who comes in the house sweaty and then gets even more sweaty because I have to take, at the very least, a warm shower. My edges be all sweated back. But I digress...

Musically, Recoil is (in my opinion) the weirdest song I've ever written. I used a series of synths and weird ambient sounds. I composed it strictly on what made me feel good in the moment and took risks by letting more space through than I usually do. This is a demo, and I imagine that when I redo it, I'll use live instruments, especially for the guitar part at the end.

Lyrically, Recoil was written in response to the Black Lives Matter movement during COVID. It is about systematic oppression, racism, and generational trauma. It is an anthem for future generations who are birthed into a history they did not choose to be part of. It pays homage to every little Black girl or boy who sadly discovers early on in life that they are treated differently due to their skin color for no reason.

My favorite line is, "Do you even know that everything you did to us, you also did to yourself and your world?" I believe that if you aim to destroy a group of people or a person, you aim to destroy yourself because we all share this world and depend on it to inhabit. You also debase and curse yourself through your actions, and any retaliation is caused by your own idiotic behavior.
