The Storm Myth Cycle
Happy New Year Anomalies!
I am eager to be in 2026, but I am also cautious 'cause 2025 threw some major curves. As Alanis sings, "You live, you learn."
I'm working on delivering more music here and know that I owe a few of you some covers. I haven't forgotten and appreciate your patience. Change is on the horizon and I need to pivot and plan accordingly.
Over the last couple of weeks, I started brainstorming for a project that is going to be a long process. It's come to my attention that along with having depth and altitude, apparently I'm a myth maker. Crazy, right? Yes, I know.
What that means is this: I didn't just one day start organizing the letters of my core family to create STORM (okay...well, kind of ). What actually happened was pattern recognition. I knew there was something about our initials and one day, when I arranged them, it felt less like creation and more like recognition - like noticing something in the sky that was already there.
It actually started when I was a baby. My mom loves to tell the story of baby me tracing figures on my shirt. She switched my shirt to see if I'd continue doing it and I did. My Great Aunt Vassie told her to watch what I was doing and that I was going to be smart.
Growing up in a chaotic environment meant I learned to read patterns early for safety and for meaning. Turns out my sensitivity is often perceived as " feeling a lot of emotions", but it's actually that I notice shifts, contradictions and undercurrents long before they're obvious. I have high-definition pattern recognition and not everyone is streaming in HD. (Wait until I get into my six registers of perception in a future post.)
Which leads me to this new epiphany: I don't just write lyrics, I write stories within stories. Songs that create worlds. Characters. Elements. Mythic threads that unfold over time. One of these threads is a long-form creative project called is The STORM Myth Cycle.
STORM is an ongoing exploration of story, sound, lineage and meaning expressed through music, writing and mythic archetypes:
Shaharoh (Storm)
Trena (Tectonic Fire)
Onaje (Oxygen)
Rashied (Rain)
Mario (The Mountain)
I felt a mix of butterflies and barf in my stomach when I started this work. That's how I know it's right and most importantly, true. I'll be sharing snippets of this mythology as I uncover more of it, but I can already feel this is something that's going to take time to fully realize.
With love - Storm Phoenix
P.S. You've known me here as The Anomaly and that name mattered. It held the part of me that never fit and colored outside so many lines. Anomalies don't disappear, they transform. You're still my Anomalies, occupying a deep part of my heart and origin. I'm just stepping into a new chapter and meeting you from the next altitude as Storm Phoenix. Quiet power. Rising.
