Here I Am...A Hero (demo)

Halloween done came and went, Anomalies.

Now we find ourselves in the penultimate month of the year. It’s hard to believe it’s been almost two years since I started this Patreon. I’m still so elated to have this creative space — it came into my life at just the right time and continues to feed my soul. Thank you for being here, for supporting me, and for being part of my artistry.

Here I Am...A Hero is another song from the vault — one I was excited about, then wasn’t, then was again… and now I’m honestly not sure, lol. If I revisit it, I definitely want to enhance the sounds, make the vocals less muffled, and add a male voice in. Real guitar is a must, too. I especially love the second verse when that scratchy piano sound comes in.

It’s a chanty kind of song — almost two songs in one. The first half is dark and dreary, and the second half shifts into something more uplifting and hopeful.

When I look back at the lyrics, I’m not entirely sure what inspired them. I think it’s about perception — how people see you versus how you see yourself. Looking within is always more important than looking outward. What people think of you shouldn’t matter, but I’ve definitely caught myself internalizing someone else’s idea of who they think I am.

Deep down, I know who I am: Shaharoh — a funny, creative, Black girl who loves her family, cherishes her people, and lives to laugh and make art. My soul is a shade of bluegreen mixed with gold, pink, orange, and purple — much like a sunset.
