Devlog#46: Words Have Weight
Dialogue in Magic Academy used to simply appear on screen. Read it, click, move on. In the next patch, text becomes part of the scene direction.
We added a new dialogue text system:
letters now appear more smoothly through per-character opacity;
specific words or phrases can be animated or highlighted with visual FX;
SFX can be attached to a specific word, so a sound lands exactly when that word appears;
the dialogue box itself can react to sharp moments, hits, or sudden accents.
Right now we are proofreading dialogues and placing FX/SFX by hand. The important part is restraint: the effects should strengthen a scene, not turn every line into a nonstop fireworks show.
Elizabeth
We are also actively preparing the next patch, and the comics for Elizabeth's romance route are already finished. In those episodes, she will reveal her... let's call it a completely new interest.
No spoilers. The surprise should make it to release intact.
We are looking forward to the moment when you can see Elizabeth's new scenes and feel how much more alive the dialogue presentation has become.
