[Stable release🔥] Easy Scanlines v1.0, CRT effect for Games, Movies and Videos!

EasyScanlines v1.0 — Changelog

CRT & Mask Improvements

  • Simplified Mask Options, also removed broken/legacy mask options.

  • Enhanced Trinitron Aperture Grille: Improved wire clarity and integer scaling alignment

  • Better Moire Fix: Moved to the bottom of the Scanlines menu and rewritten with true physical pixel math for both horizontal and vertical screen orientations.

UI/UX / Bug Fixes & Stability

  • Top-Right Status Notifications: Moved on screen notification (SCANLINES ON / OFF) to the top-right corner with dynamic screen alignment.

  • Renamed Setting: Changed Corner Fade to Border Fade (for clarity).

  • Game Detection Manual Override: Fixed an issue where manually disabling scanlines during an auto-detected game would cause the overlay to immediately re-enable itself

  • Hotkey Reliability: Added an automatic hook recovery watchdog to prevent hotkeys from dropping when transitioning to/from apps like LaunchBox's Big Box and Lossless Scaling.

  • Memory & Thread Cleanup: Fixed a thread leak during hotkey reassignment and cleaned up redundant render allocations.

🔴 There is also a new Microsoft Store release version in case you want to check that out. It includes a Game Bar widget that allows you to quickly enable or disable it using only your controller!

🔰 ORIGINAL POST

Hey! I wanted to share a project I've been working on.

It all started a couple of weeks ago when I was playing Grandia 3 using PCSX2. While emulator upscaling makes 3D models sharp, the game just looked unnatural (cinematics and texts looked specially bad). Even modern pixelart games look kinda bad when they don't have scanlines integrated (this is personal taste offcourse).

You can customize the effect in many ways: scanlines orientation, thickness, opacity, separation, vertical aligment (to better fit your especific game), border fading, round corners, etc.

As I was developing it, I realized I wanted to go beyond games. Many of my best memories of CRT TVs weren't just playing games, but watching 90s TV shows, movies, and music channels on those same screens (HBO, NICKELODEON, Some Beavis and Butt head on MTV, you get the idea). Because of that, I decided to add a TV styled OSD menu and an optional TV logo feature.

🔰 What it currently does:

  • Simulates normal scanlines and a Trinitron-ish pattern.

  • It's not a shader, you don't need to worry about GPU processing.

  • You can use it over games, movies, whatever you like!

  • Channel Logos: use any png, you can resize, set position, assign to profiles, etc.

  • Profiles: you can manage them from the main GUI along with many other options.

  • OSD menu to quick fine tune the scanline effect, TV logos, profiles, etc.

  • Options to start minimized, launch automatically with Windows, etc.

  • Activate scanlines at any moment with a shortcut (default ALT+S)

  • Add any .exe to auto launch it!

Retroarch and the community has done a great job in creating Shaders to imitate this look (that's the right way to do it), but when you can't use those or when using other emulators, options get slim (there are crt filters in some emulators, but they just dont do it for me) and other tools (shaderglass or others) are overkill or not easy to use.

Please enjoy and let me know if you have any suggestions!
