About the upcoming releases of the PC Classic Mini Collection...

As I start working on the next release, I wanted to let you know that I am considering making upcoming releases supporters only.

While this is a hobby project for me (and the support basically just buys me coffee 😅)I've recently seen my frontends packed with ROMs being sold and supporter builds re-shared just to farm YouTube followers. I know how internet works, but c'mon man!!!🤣

I haven't made a final decision on this yet, but I’d love to hear your thoughts. As always, my PMs are open and as many of you know I read and answer all of your feedback ❤.

Read you soon, stay awesome!

BTW, here's a hint of the next Classic Mini 👀:

You have to do what you think is right of course but I would caution that this is only a small portion of your community maybe even just a handful that are taking this and trying to monetize it. The majority are just regular people trying to enjoy the wonderful project you have created here. Other communities (like CoinOps) turned on their community because of the actions of a few bad apples and stopped projects from advancing which was sad. Please don’t loose heart as I guarantee the silent majority here love your work and will respect it at all costs.

That's not a good idea. As a Launchbox user who only uses your front ends for online play, I have to say that even fewer players will be online. Besides, I'd have to delete all my comments on YouTube because it's no longer free xD The people selling your front ends will at most raise the price. Or people will simply download them from the online archive or a torrent site. From a legal perspective, it's also questionable to sell things with a protected name.

Yeah, you put work in, I think it's totally fair to only make new releases for your supporters. Thanks for what you do man!

Your work is great, for sure, and it sucks that people steal it. However, making your frontends available to supporters only won't prevent that. People can still distribute your work without your consent. If your goal is to be compensated monetarily (which is a fair goal for the work you put in) I'd say make new frontend-releases available to supporters first and for everyone else later. Or offer an additional service such as curated images for all roms. Your work is fantastic, so I hope you don't get me wrong when I mention that there are many other emulation frontends out there for free. Therefore, locking non-suppoerters out permanently will probably just turn many users away from your amazing work, which would be a shame.

I think you are doing a good job, and it deserves to be supoorted monetarily. I cant always be subscribed, but i will pay my fare share when the content is this good.

It makes sense to limit future downloads to supporters. I just hope the frontends don't require an ongoing active subscription to continue using like some of the Mister FPGA cores. Another model that works well is the subscription offered by Launchbox. I pay once and don't have to worry about it again as the license never expires.

I hate the constant sub systems (like teknoparrot) they are too invasive, I also like to make everything as portable and easy to use as possible, so don't worry about that.
