I dropped the difficulty setting pretty quickly and just whacked the monsters with the plank. Yeah it takes out the tension but the stealth focus just got annoying and don't get me started on the unlikable dude (The Weight), he grabs you, you shake him off and if you don't run in the opposite direction within 0.5 seconds he grabs you again. Then the revive item respawns you on the spot upon which you get grabbed immediately. The story, setting and atmosphere are great, but holy shit do I prefer Silent Hill f's gameplay.

I remember the Blair witch game doing the "killing the monsters gets you the bad ending" thing as well and it was just as much as a sledgehammer to the goolies there as it was here.

That final joke made me laugh way too hard.

My biggest gripe about modern horror games is how they create these gorgeous environments and cool monsters and our primary way of interacting with it all is either running away as fast as we can or squatting on our asses behind a couch. It’s an entire genre that actively discourages you from unnecessary exploration, or engagement with its setting or characters. How weird is that?

Fully Ramblomatic prog rock track of the week: Selective Annoyance Deletion by Concrete Wall Texture (from their album The Problem That Arose) (If you think Concrete Wall Texture sounds too silly for a music group name even by the usual standards, be aware that there is a real progressive metal supergroup called Liquid Tension Experiment.)
