Blue Dragon’s (Unofficial) PC Port Is a Preservation Triumph
Marty digs into the recent trend of PC decomps and recomps – games like Blue Dragon, Banjo-Kazooie, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time – and why these fan-led projects feel like the future of video game preservation. Shout out to Jesse Schwab on the excellent edit of this video.

Now future generations can play Blue Dragon and conclude that the game is fine, but not as good as you would expect given the people behind it. Seriously though, I appreciate the trend in recomps. I think a lot of people who are deep down the emulation rabbit hole don't understand how much more accessible these fan projects feel when they are just a simple .exe file that you can open and run. Personally, I'd like a version of Fable 3 that you don't need to jailbreak and install multiple background programs to be able to run--certainly can't count on Microsoft to provide one, even with a new entry in the series supposedly coming out in the near future.
Would pillage and burn to play Folklore again. 🔥⚔️
This reminds me of how it was personally extremely rewarding to finally beat Lost Odyssey via emulation after years and years. I had the bad pressing of the game's final DVD that made it impossible to play the game 'til the end.
Wow, Blue dragon, that's a blast from the past. Great soundtrack.
I'm a little amused I started my own re-run of blue dragon on my Xbox at the same time that re-blue finished. I'm already 40 hours in so it's too late to switch over, but I'm happy re-blue exists
I'm hoping the original Prey gets preserved. I still have (somewhere) my game disk. I remember maybe 8-10 years ago I tried putting the CD key into Steam and it added it, though it's not on the store. I wonder if I can still download it...
I've been playing it, it's great. Solidly playable, with only a few minor bugs. I'm at the end of disc 1 amd have had one CTD, I've had plenty of worse experiences from AAA new releases.
That's good to hear. I really liked Blue Dragon back in the day. It's tied to Lost Odyssey in my memory. I never beat LO >_< , but I did beat BD. I have a 360 and the games, but I'm glad these forgotten-ish games are getting a chance.
