Other games in the genre are still chasing the impact of The Inverted Castle -- the final act of Silksong doesn't have quite the "this recontextualizes all the traversal!" wow factor, but makes up for it with oodles more new narrative context to the changes to the map. And some of that hits *hard*. Outside the genre, there are a few other games that have done things as wild and impressive -- mostly RPGs come to mind. In particular, Dragon Quest 7 and 11 both have very impressive 'second lap through the world' structures (and Dragon Quest in general, since #3 or so, has tended to have an odd and generous "this game feels like it contains its own sequel" size and pacing)
I think the clock room is just on a global timer, so when I entered it at some point it just happened to be open.
Same -- I happened to see the passage opening or closing right as I arrived, so I knew there was something up to watch for. I think the passage spends half the time (every other minute) fully open?
Great work JM8, really enjoying the deeper design delve dives
Sorry JM8, I'm not going anywhere near Twitch after the AI BS they and Amazon have been pulling. I'd love to support you more and would have loved to watch your FFIX stuff, but I'm not there.
So did he never try the Ricter playthrough you unlock after the inverted castle?
SotN is a true Masterpiece, right up there with Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, and others 💖💖💖
Am I good to watch this before playing? I haven't figured out how to get it on my steamdeck since roms are really confusing to me. This is my favorite genre of game and it feels wrong to have not played the Vania part. I'm looking forward to the release this fall, but SOTN evades me😭
It does contain major spoilers. Proceed with caution.
