Given it won't be on PC till about 2043 based on history, I'm completely ready for how big GTA 6's launch will be.

Maybe I'll start GTA 5 once 6 is released. Maybe. Kinda sick and tired of open world games tbh

It will be like Fleekazoid says, either GTA VI will be a shitshow that will make Cyberpunk's launch look like a success story, or the entirety of videogames after it will feel like a post-credits scene in a Marvel movie.

I must admit I'm excited. But as a pc player, I'll have to wait. I also bought for roughly 800$ worth of Rockstar stock some years ago. With the excitement rising I can't figure out if I should have gone higher. On the other hand, it would have been a lot of funds for me to bind for an indeterminate period before gta 6 had gotten a release date...

The more I hear about how excited I’m supposed to be about GTA VI the more ready I am for it to be out and the media cycle to have moved on from it a week later.

My concern is that anything they do in the game that is predatory, anti-competitive or generally really unhealthy for the industry is going to be not only whitewashed but lauded and copied for at least a generation by AAA trying to get their own GTA numbers, not recognising that gamers will forgive anything Rockstar does but nobody else (except maybe Steam). Also not looking forward to my entire news feed basically only being GTA for a month before and after release too…

I'm calling it now, while it will be 100% a financial success, the actual game won't be that much of a meaningful improvement from GTA5, except maybe in graphics. It will get huge praise and most likely sweep all the game awards shows, but after a year or so people will start to actually think about the game once the honeymoon period is done, and think GTA6 as a game is just "ok". Time will tell if I'm right though.

And then they'll fire the entire dev team

The problem saying "only Rockstar can get away with it" is you know that, we know that, but the other publishers DON'T know that. Also, using lifetime sells seems misleading with games like GTA and Elder Scrolls. Both GTA5 and Skyrim have been out for over a decade and re-re-rereleased on just about everything, so of course their going to have ridiculously high sells numbers.

So what happens if the game sucks?

they make an ungodly amount of money anyways. fun question though, as they might be at the point where it doesn't matter.

Expectations for GTA VI sales are so high that I'm not sure what it'll take to hit them. I can see industry/Wall Street analysts saying it "underperformed"/"didn't meet expectations" and Take Two's stock dropping as a result even as GTA VI breaks every sales record. That could trigger a sizable exodus of money/investment from the video game industry. I've seen lots of companies beat their sales targets only to have their stock price drop because analysts expected them to beat targets by more.

As Sterling once said, "A corporation can make all the money in the world and still be expected to make even more next quarter."

Can’t wait for all the tourists to complain about it as if previous GTA games didn’t have a lot to say about current society lol.
