Come to think of it, i am still impressed DN because it is the first shooter I played that tricked me into thinking platforms, mazes and arenas were not just platforms, mazes and arenas. They made sense in the context of some sort of plausible background reality. I stopped playing one of the newer dooms (like 3 dooms ago?) when the story went from "industrial/research complex invaded by demons downstream of human hubris" to hell levels which were just platforms, mazes, and arena adorned with fire and mideavalish fantasy accoutrements.

I somehow convinced my poor mother to buy me Duke Nukem 3D with my hard-earned chore money and she's never forgiven me.

Quake wins if only for the NIN soundtrack, which is still awesome today. Oh man I need to listen to that again. It's been a while...

I actually enjoy these “nostalgic fueled” videos, and would love if Yahtzee did more of them. Maybe go into more detail on what gaming on DOS computers were like and such? Not sure, but I greatly enjoy these videos going over the history of video games.

I enjoyed Duke for all it's over the top machismo silliness, but like Yahtzee I felt the bits with the trapped women were like something from another game. Not only did they ask you to kill them, you *could* kill them. That was certainly a *choice* and makes you wonder about some of the devs on that thing.

Quake had to crawl so that Half-Life could run
