I think I was the only one who liked gamepass exactly because a lot of these smaller Indie games could find release on gamepass and you could play them for “free”. They might be more likely to grab your attention and the studio could get a little bit of support. But now that they’re pivoting away from gamepass, it’s back to the square one.
Capitalism, ho! It's the same basic problem as that which suppresses developer salaries. People like creating, so game development is an attractive career. But in the end, game demand has a strict cap of around 112 hours per person, and typically much less, with people optimising that playtime - selecting the games they think they will like within the limits of a budget which is, in current economic conditions, dropping. And so we get oversupply, and with imperfect information exchange good games get overlooked in favour of well-publicised (AAA) titles. Then AI enters the picture, distorting a supply situation which was pretty bad already. I hate to say it's inevitable, but it sort of is.
And yet many good games feel like extended director's cuts of great games.
Too many games, including Huntdown which I don't think Second Wind has ever played and is one of the coolest games of 2020. If a Duke Nukem retro cyberpunk side-scrolling shooter is your thing, then Huntdown is tops.
