Finally got around to watching this after finally getting to watch the Odyssey yesterday. Great video, Darren. As always, the anti-woke crowd yelling about the ethnicity of fictional (or at least 1000s of years old characters from a different part of the world) fills me with sadness.

2 major points of disagreement here. 1 = Honestly, Aphrodite is the main being at fault. She bribed Paris - and then 'ruffied' Helen - so that Helen was stolen by Paris. The IMPLIED lack of actual love between Helen & Paris is shown by Helen not having any offspring from Paris during her 10 years of captivity - where classical signs of love are a couple having many, many children. [...unless you ascribe to the idea that the 'Helen' Paris had as a plaything was a meat puppet that replace her - while the real Helen was spirited away by Hera to Egypt, as a way to preserve Helen's marital fidelity, as there is at least one myth concerning that.] Point 2 being about the eagle / the U.S. symbol. Benjamin Franklin opposed the use of the eagle for hearkening back to the monarchistic crests of Europe - as well as the bald eagle being 'a thief that steals the kills of others & a coward'.

Wait... a Garth Marenghi reference in a video about The Odyssey? Darren, you magnificent bastard!

Looking forward to catching this after seeing it in IMAX. Any chance a podcast version of this series might be available? Love the editing and visuals but it’s hard to find time to watch every episode, but would love to catch up when I’m walking or driving somewhere

Every interesting idea. I do try to include visual cues were I can. so not sure they'd map perfectly one-for-one.

Great video. Fun fact - Tolkien referred to industrialization as ‘American capitalism’ and surprise! He was not a fan. His portrayal of Saruman as a greedy, power hungry asshole despoiling the natural world with machinery and marauding orcs reflects this. So he probably would have agreed with ol’ Viggo.

Eric Bana's career started in Australia as a comedian. Don't worry about Aussies taking Bana entirely seriously. Never going to happen. Watching his career develop as a serious actor is a source of surprised amusement and serious respect. But we'll always remember his doofus persona from his early TV appearances.

I honestly really love Bana. And I am really charmed by the way that Australia loves him. It reminds me of how Ireland loved Cillian Murphy, although that doesn't really count any more after "Oppenheimer", but there was a vague sense that he was "ours", and you guys didn't entirely get him.

Incredible timing on this. Arrived minutes before my drive back from seeing it in IMAX 70mm, and the video was nearly as long as the drive back. Loved the movie and the video. Great work

Look... I could not resist. I'm just a man. And, like Odysseus, I had a thought. A thought that I made manifest.
