Modern AAA Gaming Offers No Time to Try
KC Nwosu's latest video uses IO Interactive's 007: First Light as a jumping off point to discuss the lack of risk-taking in modern AAA games.

I'm golf-clapping your video title sir. Bravo, Bravo! 馃憦馃馃帺
There was a Dev Heads episode a few months ago where Tina opined that if GTA6 fails, then she has no idea what modern gamers actually want. But I think that if - IF - something like that were to happen, it might bring us back to a period of greater experimentation, as developers try to figure out what the new normal is.
I appreciate the commentary, but I do wonder if with the massive teams and scale, second games just aren't as needed? Perhaps that model doesn't work anymore. Theres been a slew of games that were great and the sequel was largely more of the same. God of war, Spider-Man, Hades, slay the spire, hollow Knight? Anyway, very nice, interesting video
Sadly, these days devs/studios are more often than not punished regardless if the first game is good/successful or not.
I agree strongly with KC. Sadly, I suspect the guilty party is the executives in the games industry - not shareholders, not devs, not consumers. The hair-trigger or indefensible studio closings smack of some people expecting and even demanding that every game be in effect a golden parachute for them. Careers are not made with one game. Careers are made with your entire body of work.
Rebecca Ford from Digital Extremes has also acknowledged a lot of what you said too KC
Well said, KC馃憤馃А
