Luckily, the costs of generative AI are going to outpace the value. To use it for an enterprise is going to start costing way more than any studio will want to be able to pay that’s why Amazon and Microsoft and Uber have all banned it

So glad you all are keeping up this series and this actual discussion of the games industry. Fight the good fight.

Refined by humans. Cute. Think I’ll refine my Xbox wish list.

First it was “Still made by humans,” then it’s becoming “refined by humans”, soon it’ll be “a human has the final say” before then becoming “why would you want a human to do this when prompts are fine?” This is “Learn to Code” all over again…

Nice vid! It does feel like E33 unintentionally set a bad precedent in the minds of many that using AI as placeholders that are later replaced is allowable because the end product was something so well renowned and successful without necessarily chasing the AAA/AAAA elephant. And while that might be the new norm going forward with many successful games worth celebrating (sometimes because the tools don't give them many non-AI-backed options), I think it is creating a potential new market of games that prop themselves up with generative AI when without the use of AI the game falls down.

They need to drop it off a pier.

I’m fine with using generative AI, myself. All human-made art is an amalgamation of the artist’s biases, skills and experiences which isn’t all that different to what an AI does. Neither can make something truly “unique” (try to imagine a colour you haven’t seen before). But, if you’re gonna do it, don’t lie about it afterwards. If a developer was like “We used generative AI because it’s cheaper than paying artists,” I’d honestly respect them.

that is legitimately the most depressing take I have ever read.
