A couple pointers: Anita Sarkeesian and everything she represents should not exist in the industry. The rejection that her presence manifests is just people who enjoy this hobby making their voices heard that her use of the hobby as a platform for activism is not welcome. That this game has received public funding naturally warrants more scrutiny than a privately funded game since people were essentially forced to fund it via taxes, it is reasonable to expect stricter criticism of the product then. The lack of gameplay is a valid criticism as as it is this game can barely be recognized as one, to have an idea of how little interaction it requires from the player even the guy who infamously couldn't get past the Cuphead tutorial managed to "beat" this game. As it is this game is much closer to a movie where you occasionally get to move a joystick than a videogame, that a game with so little gameplay got so many perfect scores would give anyone pause.

That’s just like your opinion man.

How do you think today's insufferable gaming discourse compares to the heyday of Gamergate, with all the rape and death threats flying around?

Personally I'd say we're seeing the mainstreaming of the cover the gaters used. The violence that motivated them has been rejected, but the noise and muck that lets them proliferate has been normalised as a profit-earning pillar of the community.

Man, the things I had no idea were happening because I'm not on Twitter!

Cutting Twitter out of my life has been a blessing.

Maybe the frustration with everyday life is finding an outlet in the wrong space? Maybe people are desperate for attention, so they join a community fueled by hate? The world is not doing well, it needs positivity and love, but it only seems to get the opposite. Regardless, it's nice to be a part of something that doesn't engage with that. Thanks SW fam!!!

Nicely said. Personally I only really get my drama second hand from you guys and that’s exactly how I like it, but I’m old and tired enough to have been able to switch off. Really wonder about the next generations raised on this nonsense (not that old, tired people aren’t also engaging mind…), will they know how to switch off if this is all they’ve ever known?

To be fair, critics are paid shills. That isn't up for debate, that's just observable fact.

Speaking of, what was the drama from Pragmata? Something about men having perpernal emotions without being a biological father or something? I tried to look into it on my own, but what I found made no sense to me.

It was a bunch of weirdos being gross. They claimed that the child was made to look too "attractive", and that men don't have any paternal or protective instincts. So the obvious conclusion they came to was that any guy who liked the game was a pdf who had bad thoughts about the child.

Well said all around on this!
