An instantly skeptical audience should put a strong burden of evidence on any company that says it wants to “bring back” something beloved in pop culture. Most attempts to pass this test should fail.
Well the Buffy the Vampire Slayer: New Sunnydale reboot died before even its pilot had a chance to air. Which, if you ask me, is a bit sad. Yes it was clearly pandering to the nostalgic crowd, but also what terrible mismanagement...
From the reports, it sounds like it was terrible. So perhaps it's for the best it never was aired.
I can't help but wonder how much responsibility the average consumer holds when we see projects like this. Not all of it, obviously, because this had to be approved by people who don't care about art or the soul that goes into its creation. But I also have to ask how responsible the people are who consume and enable these to be made. How much money do these projects make and how consistently do they perform that they're seen as a viable option for money making? Are consumers really blameless for seeing obvious nostalgia cash grabs and buying tickets? We love to talk up new IP successes like Sinners and Hoppers but sequels, remakes, and adaptations still make crazy amounts of money, especially if they're good. No one asked for a Firefly reboot but that won't really matter if enough people watch it
They actually kind of already tried this in comic form. It was passable, but not great, and really showcased that Firefly's time has passed. This animated show has a good chance of actually being worse, being even later than "passed itd time"
Im a leaf on the wind
On the subject of the passage of time and how these aren’t the actors you knew when the show originally aired, Adam Baldwin is 64. Jewel Staite is the youngest at 43. Sadly Ron Glass Passed away in 2016 at the age of 71. This really makes me feel old. Let’s just let this one go.
It's not that bad artists make bad art; I just don't want to support bad people making that art.
How is it good to “let something end” when the powers that be never even gave it a chance to begin? The network did that show dirty in so many ways.
I remember seeing the ads for Firefly back when it originally aired and passing on it because it didn't seem all that interesting. Plus I think it changed tv time slots during it's run as well, so I never even knew when it was on. It wasn't until after I saw Serenity that I went back and watched it. Definitely some baffling marketing choices on Fox's end, but I agree. Let it just be done.
You can drop the maybe in this case
