I agree that the game goes downhill in the second half and the motorcycle section had me wondering if it was a deliberate DMC homage, but up until then I didn’t have an issue with Leon’s sections. They were short little sections of stress relief that complimented Grace’s pure horror and gave some much needed catharsis before you got back to it. And you can absolutely kill the big enemies in Grace’s sections with strategic use of the Requiem or the injectors. The issue is the dragging these sections out over hours and eventually just turning it into a stealth shooter runs very contrary to the rest of the game and you’re very much reminded of the elements that Resi as a series has been trying to move away from.
If you manage your resources grace can kill every zombie no problem. And Leon's section is a fun thrill ride mixed with a little nostalgia for how much the rpd has changed.
You know what this game kind of reminds me of? The Resident Evil animated movies. There’s always a female lead who, even if they’re someone we know to be competent from the games, like Claire or Rebecca, are almost immediately reduced to damsel in distress, while either Leon or Captain No Neck gets to be the badass. I did enjoy the game, to be clear, but agree that Grace should have had more narrative and gameplay progression.
Seems harsh to me. Grace’s sections are superb. Leon’s scavenger hunt in Racoon City drags but is otherwise fun. Solid 8/10 game at least
While I know that most of the "discourse" around whether or not the (original) God of War remaster will cut the adult mini game, it does make me wonder how much should and shouldn't be cut from the original when it comes to these kinds of things? Maybe an idea for a future DD.
damn, i loved requiem, (not perfect ofc but still really loved it) looks like i'm going to have to skip this one :(
Don't sugarcoat it J; tell us how you really feel.
