I honestly don't know whether I am an RE fan; the games are usually fun enough but a serious identity crisis has been building over the decades. The last couple games have not struck a successful compromise between campy and serious; though the science and the plot "twists" (holes) are too dumb for serious to be the winner. That having been said, Biohazard worked until the obligatory forgetful action segment. Requiem is an interesting approach to reconning this identity crisis by having a horror story and an action story that intertwine. But that of course went out the window after seemingly committing to action and then pulling an unfortunate switcheroo near the end.

I feel like RE series has run its course and this SHOULD be the last entry. From that vantage, I am OK with it being a greatest hits album. The tone does completely change half-way through but I felt like the different game that we were ushered into was serviceable and I enjoyed it even though it felt like it was trying hard to be TLOU. I enjoyed switching back and forth between the different possible flavors of RE until then. But, I really did not enjoy being forced into the "what's-her-name's" shoes once again after playing as mid-life-crisis-Leon for several hours. It seemed that they tried the switch thing and that was OK but then abandoned it in favor of the action RE vibe. That final switch ruined the pacing and should have been a cutscene.

I kinda vibe with every resy story going into B movie sci fi bullshit, but that is pattern, yes 😅

I felt really confused after that ending, maybe the devs thought we'd be wetting ourselves with excitement after noticing all the references in Raccoon City to notice how stupid the story is. Typical Resident Evil pattern with Requiem, starting out strong but getting real dumb after the halfway point. Most Resi games are like that. "Most" because the ones that don't follow that pattern, like 6, are the ones that start out really dumb and stay really dumb lol. -- SPOILERS below -- Also in a similar vein to RE4s plot... why is the villains plan so baaad?? If they really believe that Grace is the "key" or whatever to unlocking Elpis, then wouldn't they want to keep her safe? Instead of getting harassed by all these monsters in the care center?
