AAA Games have just gone downhill haven't they(like yall said, AA will fill the gap)
Ever since Prime 3 tried going more dialogue heavy, it's like that's what they wanted to keep up with Prime 4. The NPCs are pretty forgettable though as you said. And the world still feels very sectioned off even with the open desert, which is really just there to be an in-between dungeon connection with bike stunts in between; which are fun for a bit indeed, but it's a shame it's nothing more interesting. Maybe Prime 1 and 2 were more of the exception than the rule :P I'll make peace with that at this point.
The inclusion of quirky side characters and an open world in this game made me wonder if the Halo talent they brought on and their desire to see non-gamers work on the title (as stated when BotW came out) dragged down development in some way. No one who's ever enjoyed a Metroid game would ever say they want more dialogue and silly characters present during the story and the open world appears so token that you'd have to think they were added because the people who pushed for them assumed the audience would enjoy them rather than enjoying those elements themselves
