The only reason I'd even consider getting a console is so I can play Vanillaware titles. There are a couple of other console exclusives stuck on Playstation I'd love to get my hands on (the Joan of Arc SRPG, for instance) but when Vanillaware comes to PC I'm swearing off consoles entirely

It's amazing how, not that long ago, we were thinking that Microsoft buying up ActiBlizz was going to create this massive monopoly that other publishers/studios couldn't compete with and it'd be bad for gamers. Only Microsoft could have fucked that up to the point we're at and still somehow made it bad for gamers.

Loved Resistance FoM, not a halo killer at all, but a good option for the Sony community. Sequels didn’t work out great. No mention of 360’s RRoD issues, i feel that was a big, early, ding on the Xbox good will. Backwards compatibility has always been a piece of console zeitgeist, and pre download era, I was thrilled that my first PS3 played PS2 games.

I agree with your points about Xbox but the counterpoint is that Playstation 5 to this day barely has any games that you could say are the flagship games for Playstation 5. Horizon Forbidden West, Ghost of Yoshima, God of War: Ragnarok -you could make a point that all of these games could have been released on the Playstation 4 without a significant graphical detriment. So what was the purpose of the Playstation Five? This is a console that sold like gangbusters but to this day Sony still doesn't know how to use it to its full advantage. Meanwhile, Xbox has cornered the market on allowing players (through Game Pass) to experience tons of indie titles, play on PC and on the handheld, play big new releases like Outer Worlds 2 on release day for free. Sony doesn't offer anything like that, and Playstation Plus is a pathetic excuse for a Game Pass imitator. I can't say that Xbox is making smart decisions but Sony almost rivals them in bad management
