The sad part is this raging narcissist can probably con his way into enough VC to pull something like this all over again.
Everything you are describing (flashy new companies with little to no record of success, major discord within the organization, crunching staff beyond repair) is part of the "AI" VC crop that is inflating the AI bubble as well. And in that cast the global economy is also at risk.
Great essay!
I feel really bad for the developers of Minds Eye. I watched Marty's playthrough on his Twitch channel, and while the game was comically bad, there was some care taken in its creation. The animation and voice acting were good, but anything positive about the game was buried until a mountain of bad choices from executives.
I had similar thoughts about Dragon Age Veilguard. There were parts of that game that I thought were well done, both in gameplay and in the story, and would have been interested to see the team work on something that hadn’t been chopped apart and stitched back together over and over again.
