Darren, you never apologize for going "long". Another creator I like made a whole "How James Gunn Deconstructs the Manosphere", a great video, 2h 40m in length. So a mere 30mins is nothing, that is between you, your god, Marty and Nick (the last two for financial reasons) But, speaking for myself, you lost me with the Jesuit stuff. I am very illiterate when it comes to religious matters and I don't feel shame in admitting so

Moore doesn’t have great things to say about pop culture heroes in general. League of Extraordinary Gentlemen does not pull punches when it comes to his homeland. It may not be possible to hate Harry Potter more than Alan Moore does.

I find Moore to be endlessly fascinating and also ahead of the curve on most issues. He uses superheroes for his thesis, but an argument can be made that his real-life subjects could just as well be the Founding Fathers or anyone we build monuments, dedicating holidays to and erasing most of their baggage. His snake god might just be the way to go

Feels like the Scrobble scene when Adebayo and Judo Master bond over an "IRL" interaction, despite their previous allegiances, is a really great way of emphasizing the ridiculousness of online, pseudonymous antagonism. It's a great moment. Anyway, I'm with you on Superman (booo!). I actually didn't enjoy Peacemaker season one either, but the team gushing on the Rewind podcast led me to giving season two another go, and it's been a pleasant surprise. Keep up the stellar work, DM!

I am part of the camp that knows "Superman" as a film is incredibly messy at best and just a plain misfire on most fronts, but I was so starved for just a good dude at heart that just so happens to be stronger than most nukes...that I gave it a personal, emotional pass I love that Lois has something to do and feels like an actual person. I also love that Superman, despite him telling us that he's just as flawed as anyone else out there, but still trying his best and thus as human as they come in those very same words in the very last moments of the film...etc., he proves he's not a mission statement from his homeworld, but he's the product of the Kents' nurture. I can easily fall for that. Again, bad movie for my Supes to be in, but the characters are earnest and if Miss Maisel gets to be Lois, then everything is ok (that show has to have one of my favorite endings to any show I've ever seen; not the coda, but the real ending) I get what Snyder was trying to do and it was kind of interesting to see that, sure, if this being came to Earth he'd be considered a super weapon to be wary of by some and a god by others, but the execution was just bad on all fronts. So I need this. I get the argument the Rewind gang makes that "caring for a dog doesn't make him super", but it does, in a weird way, because we're talking about a guy who can nuke countries by using his eyeballs and yet he's more concerned with the well-being of a very mischievous dog I'm sorry for taking your time, but I don't think priests are suited for my exculpation on this one LOL

Another insightful analysis. Thanks for always increasing my understanding of the shows I like. Superman was ok but Peacemaker is James Gunn at his best.

A detail about the Watchmen ending that should be noted, something the comic is more explicit about, is that the superpowered beings view themselves above normal people that they can't see the goodness within the average person and so they go with that plan (encapsulated in the newspaper seller and the black teenager overcoming their differences and slowly getting to know each, which the comic shows that the seller attempted to shield the teen from the monster attack). Something you can see peacemaker doesn't do when considering a similar choice
