There's something about Marathon's art style that's driving me nuts about how unappealing it is without me being able to point out why. It feels like an abstraction of an abstraction, like Watch Dog 2's hacker aesthetic (UI not in game) but less grounded. I'm not sure who this art style is meant to appeal to, what fantasy it's meant to fulfil.
I don’t play this type of game but it’s probably a bad omen that having seen the two, I think I would’ve preferred to play Concord rather than Marathon if I was so inclined.
The thing i find most frustrating is that Marathon has some really insane lore from the previous trilogy (we're talking humorously egotistical AI's, bizarre aliens, and time travel shenanigans), which could have set the stage for a fascinating singleplayer/PvE story or something like TF2 were it has it's an over the top nature. But everything indicates that they are playing it safe and doing more of a Destiny style trickle of lore bits, despite the fact that could have been a selling point
Yeah, having played old school Marathon back in the day I can easily see the influence on GlaDos.
As if Sony is going to delay Marathon when Bungie was the most expensive acquisition second to Firewalk. Bungie has been a zombie for the last decade and it's time to let go.
Buying a developer for its expertise in a genre then sacking a bunch of the senior dev staff and forcing a genre change seems like a very weird way to leverage the developer.
I'm enjoying Nick's voice and the scope of this series this series develops.
Re: Yahtzee's "support us" message, there is no easy way for existing supporters to donate or increase their gifts without bumping up to a whole new tier. I've actually tried to do this twice and was stymied both times. I even tried to bump myself up to a $10 tier, but I can't do that since I paid for a year of the $5 tier up front. (I don't feel confident enough to commit to this level for a full year in my current situation in 2025, sorry). You're missing out on potentially small but numerous revenue sources. What's the best option for someone in my shoes, and can you make it more prominent? I suppose I could gift a $12/year membership to my cat or something.
