Good vid! - ALMOST made me consider thinking of wanting to appraise my opinion of Doctor Who (it's never clicked for me). :) Unfortunately, Who always feels to me exactly how it's portrayed in that one episode of Extras. Loads of respect for Russell T Davies though. Loved Years and Years though - glad that made a cameo - and It's a Sin, whilst off topic here, was exceptional. Interesting chap.
Loved "It's a Sin."
It’s been a while since I’ve watched the old-old Doctor Who, but I recall Tom Baker delivering a lot of lines or just emoting directly at the camera, like he was addressing the audience. Man has teeth. Lots of em. Too many perhaps.
Oh, Baker would regularly just barrel the camera. And, to be fair, Pertwee would stop just short of it.
As someone who dropped off sometime during the Moffat years--I'm an old school Who fan who has a fondness for the days of yore (remember when Douglas Adams wrote for the show!?), so the modern Who's kinetics and emotions feel overwhelming--it is nice to hear the good Doctor is still managing to be a critique of and message for the culture we live in.
Ah yeah. It's a very different sort of aesthetic. I love Hinchcliffe/Holmes, but I also love Davies. I love Cartmel, but I also love Moffat. It's a great illustration - to me - of a show's capacity to evolve and change over time in a way that not every franchise has managed to pull of. You put a Lloyd Innes episode next to a Saward episode, and they may as well be from a different planet. You put a late Davies episode next to a late Moffat episode, the rhythm and the tempos are different. Even comparing RTD I to RTD2 reveals a show that has changed in its bones. I prefer some versions to other, but it's that change that I love.
The Silence gag was fantastic
All Jesse!
