I propose we call Yahtzee's version "Scissor Edition"
Well, now I want to play Yahtzee’s version of the game. I wasn’t sure, but you really sold it at the end.
Writing in video games continues to sit not just third class, but like in steerage, next to the drive shaft, feet soaked in engine grease. And it isn’t hard! Like Yahtzee says, do more with less. Make these people feel real.
For a studio making a bunch of games with in-depth stories relying on character arcs and developing, they don't seem to have taken any effort to actually learn anything about writing. Especially, as said in the review, 'Fantasy' and 'Sci-Fi' are considered to be barely distinct genres at best. Thing is, it's those specific choices that make it look silly because there's plenty of genres that actually are opposed in tone and aesthetic where you COULD imagine the authors aren't interested in the other one at all; one writes romance and the other writes pulpy action thrillers, one writes sci-fi/fantasy and the other writes historical fiction. Though maybe that might require some originality from the game developers rather than being able to throw in all the most generic video game aesthetics and setpieces.
I always enjoy Yahtzee’s breakdowns of story or gameplay. His version is much better!
When I woke up this morning I certainly wasn't thinking "I am going to think about Back to the Future today because of something that Yahtzee said" yet here I am doing so, so thanks Yahtzee❤😅
