I couldn't believe the game just took the master sword away from Zelda and gave it to Link at the end. My first thought was "wait, what the fuck, are we really gonna step aside to just play the dodging game?" lol It's just like Super Princess Peach years ago, which had Perry the side character (the parasol of all things) be the main focus of the character development arc, instead of Peach. Why even make a game about a well known character and have them not even be the focus just to sideline them? ... or perhaps, even worse. Because at least Super Princess Peach still let you fight the final boss as her lol, rather than rescuing Mario and co, and then watching on the sidelines. Damn, it's kinda depressing when even Super Princess Peach did something better.
I'm female & 100% agree with Yahtzee about 'Echoes'. FFS - the Zelda from 'Tears' is a thousand times more active & has an insanely stronger personality as a cut-scene NPC than the 'send minions off to die'/do nothing 'heroine' of 'Echoes'. Turning Zelda into a plank of wood protagonist is an insult & extemely disappointing.
What a breath of fresh air and relief that Yahtzee and SW have the freedom to post a negative review of a Zelda game. This one seems to be fairly middling but everything else I've read seems to be very to mildly positive
That Jack Packard's got one helluva sales voice!
Ngl, love that ad at the end. Yahtzee calling his boss a gigantic tit is the kind of positivity I need in the morning.
I want to see a Legend of Zelda game where past-Gannon successfully corrupted Zelda, she dispatched him and imprisoned Link. Now present-Gannon has to defeat Evil Queen Zelda and rescue Link before Evil Queen Zelda fully corrupts Hyrule, breaking the cycle and plunging the world into an eternity of darkness. And to be clear, this is not a Gannon-is-the-good-guy game. Gannon is still a bad guy, but he's a bad guy with a vested interest in the cycle continuing and Hyrule not being plunged into an eternity of darkness ruled over by an evil Zelda.
